Patch Tuesday

It has been suggested that last Tuesday's MS Patches contains a faulty element that is causing previously working software to crash. Any element of truth in this?

Well I've applied it to a bunch of stuff without issues but it depends what this software in question is, as maybe I don't use it.

I've applied to both my Windows 7 PCs with no problems or after effects.

Silverlight update has been withdrawn. it broke Sky Player and today its been removed

Does it really matter? I was merely seeking to discover if it was just a local issue or more widespread. Narrowing down the corruption, it has been found to be related to Windows Update KB3008923 and only Internet Explorer 11 users. Uninstalling that particular KB is a temporary work around that restores functionality to the web based data entry screen being used.

Obviously a more satisfactory solution is being sought.

There is a worse one - KB3004394 which borks all manner of things, VirtualBox in my case.

Got about 5 updates today after patch tuesday's updates. No reboot needed on my Win 8.1 machines but interesting all the same. Fixes?

Ive seen some problems with it - it was stuck (after 8 hours+ - left it overnight) on installing a Visual Studio 2012 update, and didn't reset (again, it got stuck on the animated circles).

Another computer took over an hour to install everything, and reset was slow. Haven't tried the third computer yet.

It does make you wonder if these patches are being fully tested...
