Forced upgrade didn't work - still get the failed update error (80240020). It would be really nice if Microsoft stated what it meant, but with the NewOS directory being empty, I presume the actually OS still isn't available
I got fed up of waiting and downloaded the windows 10 media creation tool. I used it to put a 64-bit image on a 4 Gb usb stick. When it had finished I ran setup.exe and after an hour had an activated windows 10.

Did you use your old Win8.1 Key, or did it just pick it up from the existing Installation?

I did not enter any key. The way it works I think is it recognises that the O.S. being upgraded is activated so it creates a new key that is stored in the Microsoft store. There is no key visible in windows 10. After the key is stored in the Microsoft store, you can subsequently use the image created by the media creation tool to do a clean install.

I have already done one installation with the media tool and sick of waiting so may as well do my main machine with the tool - here goes nothing.

Couple of glitches but now up and running, one screen/mouse freeze and a reboot but all seems ok now. Cortana didn't work until a reboot either!

It took a couple of hours - you do meet the Black Screen Of Worry, which after a long wait was replace with the Install Screen Of Relief.

Had a couple of emails from Microsoft, this morning.
Basically these were suggesting that the Win 10 Update could be weeks away & that I could always use the Media Creation Tool instead!

I had the same email. I ran Win update this morning on one of my devices and it immediately started downloading Win 10 - it is now 22% through upgrading Windows.

Nothing in the Update area for Windows 10, so it'll be a Media Creation upgrade.
