Re: Not impressed by Win 10 Auto-Updating!!

well it gets worse.

build 10532 available.
it downloads.
it does its preperation.
it reboots

Then the update screen appears, its the same screen as when updating from windows 7, so the feature updates = upgrade entire OS again including reinstalling drivers, so that bugged out process si repeated on feature updates.

Well I was watching it on the copying files stage, then at about 30% the system just rebooted, after it booted again, it said "restoring previous version of windows".

So it failed but I have absolutely no idea why, because the whole process is dumbed down with no reason given to the end user.

I love Microsoft's new generic error message:

I do with they would give much more details for things - both for updates and error messages.

Apparently only business users will get more information about updates, for some reason. They should know what is in each update, so why cant they make accurate information available for everyone ?

More stable than 7!!!!

I've only had 2 issues in 5 years. I still use XP on two PCs without any issues in the last 6 months.

W8 and 8.1 have big issues with many users and W10 seems to be causing huge disappointment.

You are not talking about the version of Windows 10 that most people are running but about Windows Insider Preview which is aimed at geeks who are (should be?) helping Microsoft to sort out bugs. It is test software - of course there are bugs!

We have been running the standard issue Windows 10 Home on two computers for over a month now. During that time 17 updates have installed without a hitch. The PCs are running fast and stable. Apart from a few glitches with Edge there have not been any problems at all. (Note that IE11, Firefox and Chrome all run normally.)

Replying to entire thread, all this trouble could be avoided by using a stable Linux distribution such as Mint 17.2. Actually, would that be so "silly" while waiting for the Windows program to sort itself out?
