No problems AFAIK with my 2 Win 7 Pro PCs.

You could try a restore at a date in the past it (the updating) worked previously without issue.

Try this:

Reboot the computer
Go to Windows Updates
Check for updates
Select only 1 update to install, try and install that one update.
Report back what happens.
