In a similar situation recently I dragged the email tab down from the tab bar, which turns it into the first tab of its own window. As I don't usually use IE11 in full width I then had one IE11 window at the left edge of the screen and the other further to the right, largely overlapping, with a space to the right for a single column of my most-used icons.
I have the
taskbar properties >> button options set to
Combine when full. If you have it on
Always combine you select either by clicking a visible part of the required window, or by hovering over the button. When the second window was email I found I sometimes messed up, in a very minor way, by clicking on a visible part.
The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.
