Windows 7 Trouble

I'm having terrible troubles and hope somebody can help. Running W7 HP 32 bit.

Firstly, I've tried everything I can think of, ESET, super anti spyware, malware bytes, adware, hijack this, TDSS Killer, Microsoft fixit tools, shutting down update service then deleting softwaredistribution folder, then restarting update service......I'm pretty sure I now have a clear machine, but still cant complete windows updates. I get error 8007000E

I've also looked at the files in the System32\drivers\etc folder and hosts is listed as a cheapme filetype while I think it should just be a file, not a cheapme file.

I've googled for two days, tried repair installing, all to no avail.

Please can anyone offer any advice?

Fingers crossed, I'm going demented with this now, I literally have a serious headache.

googling CheapMe suggests some adware - but Malware bytes is meant to fix it.

Try checking the Hosts file - howtogeek - it should have very few lines and all starting with # if a default install
