The pc can see the printers web page so it knows it's there but the printer driver says it's offline. The printer is wired to the network and other devices can print to it fine. I've rebooted the printer and pc many times.

Ahh I saw this on quite a few Windows 8 RTM machines (which had also exhibited the offline thing) with some specific printer drivers at the place I worked for. I think couple of reboots one after another, clearing the spooler directory, and attempting deletion from device manager, finally worked.

I am susprised I have forgotten exactly what I did to fix it because it was the bane of my life for a good few weeks and was causing me a fair amount of pressure/stress. But then again it was almost 4 years ago now, brain cells are clearly aging!

It was a problem with the driver ultimately but also a problem in Windows in the fact it was struggling to comply with user/administrator instructions to get rid of it.

I would imagine google would be your friend if you search carefully..

I had to reboot the router. It was in there things had got screwed up. I did say that, or at least tried to.

Do your other devices by any chance connect directly to the printer, not through the router?

All devices are on the network both wired and wifi and work ok. It's just the one that doesn't

Have you rebooted or better stil done a factory reset of the router?

If all else fails, uninstall the printer completely and reinstall it. Sometimes the network port assigned to a printer can get confused. You can just delete the network port and recreate but, offhand, I'm not sure how easy it is to do that in Windows 10.

Did you delete all print jobs from the queue before trying to delete the device?

I'm using a software router so I don't think that will help - it's just win 10 on the desktop where the problem lies I think

Yes I did. I managed to delete all the drivers too. I reinstalled the printer and I now have two - one shows the status as being removed, the other shows the status as offline. Hmmm.
