Yes it's turned off every night and booted up next day. The router is left on all the time but I have rebooted it on several occasions recently as a result of this problem.

Have you checked your hosts file for any entry like:

127.0.0.1 192.168.0.1

That may be your problem, a win10 shutdown is not a shutdown by default.......start it up then do a restart.

Using the router to access the internet is not the same thing as accessing the router (GUI) which is what 99.682% of the population would read into what you posted .

Thanks rogerfp, i tried your suggestion but all "ok" except last two lines of the second netsh command which read

Resetting , failed
Access is denied

Restart the computer.........

I tried it a couple of times with the same result each time

There is a Microsoft article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/299357/how-... which offers a downloadable reset utility. Although it doesn't specifically mention Windows 10 it will work OK. Did you run the command prompt in elevated mode, ie. as the administrator? If you download the utility make sure you run it as the administrator.
If so and you still get the access denied error (this indicates a permissions issue in the registry) this link shows how to overcome the problem,

If none of that works next enable the administrators account in Windows 10 by following the steps
Tap on the Windows-key. This should open the start menu or bring you to the Start Screen interface depending on how Windows 10 is configured on the system.
Type cmd and wait for the results to be displayed.
Run the the cmd prompt as administrator.
At the prompt type:- Net user administrator P$sw0rdY <enter>
(NB. change P$sw0rdY to a password of your own choice in the above command)
Then :- Net user administrator /active:yes <enter>
Test the activated Administrator: Switch User, or logoff
Logon as Administrator and try accessing the router from this account
