Maybe it has turned on lots of telemetry which tends to slow win 10 down. You can use Shutup10 to turn off these features

I wonder if it really works? There are a few of these sort of things around and it been sad that they do not really stop the telemetry as MS will find some other ports to send it.

Yes, it may well work on older setups. But it is very responsible of Microsoft not to push it out until they are reasonably sure.

The update immediately removed my SoundblasterZX and disabled it. That's sorted out now. I got sick of the nags to set up One Drive that started after the update and uninstalled it. Every day brings something new, I never know from one day to the next what MS is going to choose to screw up for me.

This is one of the problems I have with Windows 10, since Ms says it is a service they will keep updating and putting more features in that will no doubt break something else.

this is why i want to go back to windows 8.1, amongst other reasons.

I'm visiting elderly friends Friday evening and have had an email from them

....

But we'll see what's what.
Turned out just to be some general tidying up that was needed, a run of Ccleaner to fill the virtual wheelie bins, and removing some unnecessary add-ins to Word - the main use of the laptop.
