Google Earth Pro automatically installed on Windows 10

Somehow, Google Earth 10 has been installed on my Windows 10 system without me requesting it. I haven't used Google Earth for weeks. Revo Uninstaller tells me that it was installed today. What's going on? frown

Latest release of Google Earth, 7.3.0.3830 Release date July 10, 2017?

Could be a routine Windows update.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.

Doesn't google have its own update mechanism installed when you install chrome or google earth?

Who knows what Windows 10 does in this sort of case!

It doesn't matter anyway - as you imply it could just be Google Earth running in the background as a service all the time on Mick's machine and calling home checking for updates.

You say "I haven't used Google Earth for weeks", which implies that you have used it in the past. On this computer?

Oh! For sure. I've wasted massive amounts of time with Google Earth. Maybe it has just been silently updating itself in the past, and I've never noticed. Now, it's silently upgraded itself to the Pro version (which is now free, apparently). I only found out because the installer plopped a shortcut on my desktop. I don't mind silent updates too much (or rather, I have had to get used to them, like everyone else). I would rather be asked if I want to upgrade, even if the upgrade is free. I suppose this is something else we've all got to get used to.

In that case I suspect that you are correct; now that Google Earth Pro is free it's the default that is installed. And if you have Google Earth on your computer it is going to update itself.

Rumours of Windows 10 acting unreasonably are greatly exaggerated.

I have no objection to software that I install myself being updated automatically as long as it does no harm.

However, the last Windows update made a complete mess of my audio drivers. Decided that my Soundblaster ZX wasn't working, disabled it and set the default playback to the onboard audio device that wasn't plugged into anything. Perhaps it's my fault for having such a rare audio card!!

From GEP 7.1 onwards it auto installs any updates smile

From GEP download page:
