Hi.
A little query that someone might help me with.
Over the last few days, my PC seems to be taking about 3/4 minutes to boot up.
Nothing has been done/altered by me with regard to settings etc.
Used Avast full scanning - nothing . Used Superantispyware, nothing.
Just wondered if anyone had had any issues lately - perhaps with Windows update?

HDD failing. How fast does it run when finally booted?

Is it equally slow if booting in Safe Mode?
Have you deactivated as many Start Up items as possible?
It nay be worth running some tests on your disk, and also consider doing a Windows 10 Refresh. This is much less drastic than reinstalling the whole OS, as it will allow you to keep a lot of your existing applications and data.

Hi Ian - thanks for the reply.
When booted, it runs perfectly well - as it has done previously. The HDD is fairly new - and using good testing software , it seems to be in pretty good condition. As I say, it's a recent development: the only untoward thing is that it repeatedly fails to install some late Windows updates.
Cheers, Les

Same sort of times in safe mode - I've minimised "start up" items to as few as I can.

Ok - I suggest asking on this site as well:

Does anything specific show when Windows fails to install those updates? That to me seems to be the most likely cause of the slow boot up time.

Cheers Jon,
Will have a quick look - I've used Bleeping Computers for a while now, downloading various software (ComboFix/RKILL etc) etc. Thanks again, Les

When I boot up next time, William, I'll take a note of exactly what the message is: at each time, it also tells me I need my update my "flash player", too.
Cheers, Les.

My Windows 10 installation seemed to go wrong after a windows update in Dec 2017. I noticed booting a little longer but when running the disc light would glow and for the maybe 5 sec of that, nothing would happen. I had to take it to be fixed. It was a failed hard disc. They cloned over to the new disc then had to do a system repair as some files were corrupted. Plus I noticed they'd used adwcleaner and Hitman Pro amongst others.
Anyway goes really well now after coughing up £125! While it was at the shop it was trying to do the creators fall update. It failed several times there but it eventually worked here after several attempts.
