FAT32 Formatting

Need to format 64GB and 128 GB Micro SD cards in FAT32 format - they are supplied as exFAT. Windows will not do it - either from within or using: format E: /FS:FAT32 /V:uSD_125 /Q in a command window

Any recommendations, from experience, as to which tool to use?

Windows should do it. Have you run the command from a command prompt with the /fs:FAT32 switch?

For NextBase dash-cams?

Yes:

format E: /FS:FAT32 /V:uSD_125 /Q

and it returns

Insert new disk for drive E:
and press ENTER when ready...
The type of the file system is RAW.
The new file system is FAT32.
QuickFormatting 128000M
The volume is too big for FAT32.


update: Thought I would try without /Q - so a full rather than quick and it might be working.

update2: it starts working indicating percent verified, gets to 99 percent and then changes to

If you have access to a NextBase, at least the one I have, that has a built-in FAT32 formatter.

FAT32 is a maximum of 32GB. You might be able to partition the drive into smaller parts in windows. That way you could create partitions smaller than 32GB and format those.

A FAT32 partition can be up to 2 TB.

FAT32 is up to 16 TB - it is just Microsoft that put an artificial 32GB limit in Windows.
