Yes apparently GPT partitions are the way forward especially with a UEFI motherboard. I've also got my dual boot back using a workaround.

UEFI, which requires a GPT partitioned disk, makes multiple booting much easier, especially as it allows as many partitions as you want.

In reply to a post by Banger:
I've enabled TPM 2.0 in the BIOS and it seems to be on but still not compatible.
My desktop is too old for even a TPM add on option. Shame.

This requirement will also stop Intel Mac users from dual booting into Win11 as Apple hardware doesn't support TPM 2.0. They have their own incompatible chip in later Macs.

It is unclear if virtualisation (VMWare, Parallels, VirtualBox) will be able to provide a "software emulated" TPM - one to watch.

The requirement is not TPM 2.0 (although that is recommended) but >=TPM 1.2. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibili...

You can install Windows 11 on VMWare or VirtualBox (e.g. https://techwiser.com/download-install-windows-11-vi... ).

Yeah, don't have one of those either. Cheap 2015 motherboard. Secure Boot is enabled and works well for years. Oh well smile

I do, for Bitlocker: https://imgur.com/a/sRtoPYJ

Windows 11 encrypting drives by default would be a good improvement.

No argument from me, my laptops have always been encrypted, but not automatically desktops - but now in 2021 I don't see that as an issue as performance is so much higher.

My Asus B38M-G doesn't have a TPM and doesn't have a plug to add one. It is a 4th Gen Core i7 with 16GB RAM and SATA SSD, so goes pretty well, but can't really hold a candle to the latest 11th Gen i7's with M.2 SSDs.

More interestingly are the fairly new Mac laptops that people dual boot with BootCamp, which will not be able to run Windows 11. Apple won't care as they've moved focus to their new ARM architecture CPUs, and Microsoft won't care either.

My Desktop is now compatible. Problem was not TPM 2.0 but I was booting from MBR disk and not GPT. Once I ran MBR2GPT for Disk 0 in System32 on Win 10 and re-tested I was getting a green compatible but lost my dual boot option. Also I will have to lookup what WinRErepair is all about as the above advised me to run it.

The checker is not very good, it seems to be more about getting people to buy new computers, it has a limited amount of CPU's in the list, so even if your CPU can one Windows 11, it will say it can't.

I can't remember what I formatted my drive to.
Anyway the more I read about Windows 11, the less I like it, not being able to move the taskbar would annoy me, I prefer mine at the top of the screen.

I only know a couple of people that uses bitlocker and they both uses it on laptops, my machine is not a laptop, so I have no need to use it or have my drives encrypted, which can be a pain in the neck. Bitlocker also only work on Windows pro>
I use Vera crypt for some usb drives that I sometimes take out with me, Veracrypt works on any version of Windows, linux and MAc.

Making TPM a must for windows 11 is stupid, just like forcing people with Windows 11 home to keep their computer connected to the net on set up and to have a MS account.

That's annoying I prefer my taskbar on the right with pop out start menu. Might have a moan at the UI developer on twitter about that.
