What specification does it fail on?

It's really no different to any other update of Windows (or Mac OS). There are always these odd problems with the early versions. Sensible people leave it to others to sort out the problems and only update when the x.1 or x.2 version is released; the bugs are normally ironed out by then.

The odd problem? That is an understatement.
Windows 11 is to be honest a shambles.

I bought an almost new computer and unfortunately, my configuration does not support updating to windows 11. I'm really angry

Does it say why? If it is TPM, then go to the manufacture of your computer website and find out how to switch on TPM.
I would not be too angry, if you really want it, you could install it if you have the know how, but at the moment you are better off without it.

I've heard that before with

(omitting earlier ones)
Windows Vista
Windows 7
Windows 8
Windows 8.1
Windows 10
Every new version of OS X

Most have gone on to be huge successes.

With games, apps and browsers pretty much driving users to upgrade, and MS pushing (and now pretty much forcing) users to upgrade, what's the alternative?

Even hardware is becoming OS specific. Couldn't game on Zen+ or later with Win 7, without a lot of hassle. Win 11 is forcing more hardware requirements.

I completely agree, and I've seen a lot of the Windows version from 1.01 back in 1985. I actually liked Vista, but I ran it on sensible hardware, not the rubbish PCWorld was selling with XP and then "upgrade for free".

Win11 will need 6 months to bed in, even the open testing with programmes such as Insider (and Apple's equivalent) is no longer actually getting any testers, people sign up to those programmes for bragging rights, and a high percentage don't report a single bug. Which makes sense if they are installing on a 2nd PC and not using the main one - as directed! smile

Arguably, the most complete version of Windows, right from the start, was Windows 2000. But it wasn't a patch on OS/2. We used to run a remote OS/2 server that was only rebooted every two years or so, and it never missed a beat. That was in the days before constant updates were necessary.

Trouble with OS/2 was the lack of third-party programs. But it integrated really nicely with IBM mainframes.

The days before we wired everyone together with this internet thing was a lot simpler!!

And they normally go alternative to what did ok and what did not.
Windows 10 was a shambles, but not as bad as Windows 11 I don't think, but MS tricked people into installing that on their machine as they did not want another Windows XP situation with Windows 7.

I liked Windows 8 to be honest, get rid of the silly start screen and replace it with a start menu, and it was ok, I would still be using it now if my machine ran it correctly, but for some reason kept coming up with a memory management error.

As others have said about vista, it was ok with the right hardware.

Windows 11 i think is the worst of the lot, I like the look of it, but so much missing from the taskbar and the bugs and problems, I am going to keep it on here until the end of the month just to see what fixes come.

Microsoft tricked people to update to Windows 10, the amount of times I had to sort out computers where they updated from Windows 7 to 10 and people did not want it.
