Searching in Windows 10

[link to this post]

When I was using Win7, if i was looking for a document I could key in a word, preferably unusual, into the search box bottom LH corner and a few seconds later documents containing that word would be listed.

Now with Windows 10, search does not seem to work in a similar way. ie it cannot find the document(s) containing the search term.

Indexing is turned on. Anything else I need to do?

Thanks.

Cheers!

In my experience searching in Windows 10/11 is just plain awful.

I really must track down an alternative search tool for Windows. I used to use one year ago, that I've long since forgotten the name of.

Ah ha, Agent Ransack is what I used to use, no idea if it is still any good or not.

No problem for me in Windows 10. I did have to add one or two extensions to the search index options, for instance I added .php so I can search the contents of PHP files in File Explorer.

Thanks for that.

It certainly found the file, a Word document, that I was looking for, so for now it is certainly my best option.

What I noticed was that unlike MS's search methods, it does not build up an index of disk contents. It took about twenty minutes to find the file I was after, which was still much faster than my manual attempts. Searching for another Word file using a single unusual word took over an hour.
(My pc is reasonably fast).

Thanks again.

Cheers!

I am able to use File Explorer to search for text within Word documents as well: https://imgur.com/FHQ2nVf

I'm guessing there's some kind of corruption in your indexing system.
