Microsoft Office 2013 - Word - Columns

[link to this post]

Using Microsoft Office Word 2013, I often need to produce a 4-page A5 leaflet using an A4 sheet in landscape set up for 2-columns.

No problem at all. Thus there are two “inside” pages, 2 & 3 and with pages 1 & 4 being on the “outside”.

This is seen in Word as page 1 on the RH side and page 4 on the LH side of the screen and with page 2 on the LH side and page 3 on the RH side of the screen beneath.

So far so good and it is easy to produce with text on each of the A5 size pages.

What I now need is for page 2 (or page 4) to itself have 3 columns. All the other A5 "pages" to just have simple plain text.

Is there a straightforward way of doing this?

Thanks.

Cheers!

How about setting that page up as a borderless table?

Use a section break at the end of page 1, of type "new page" and it will work like a page break. You can then change the number of columns in section 2 to be three, and then add another section break after that and set columns back to one.

Thanks Tiny
It certainly seems to work, trying now to see how I can import my existing text into the table.

Cheers!

What you describe is what I had in mind as a solution, but I cannot get it to work.

Problem likely that my "page" is A5 in size being a column of a 2-column landscape A4 side.

So what I am trying to do is create a three column section within a column of a 2-column document.

I think.....

Cheers!

Does your version of Office include Publisher? If so, that's what I would be using for your purposes.

As an alternative to a column based set up, you can create the document as single A4 pages, each being the contents of one of your A5 columns rather than an A4 page with two A5 columns. You will need to resize the text to fill the A4 page. Then go to the print options and select "2 pages per sheet" rather than "1 page per sheet". This will then print (for example) pages 1 and 2 of the A4 document side by side on a landscape A4 sheet - so the same visual effect as two A5 columns side by side. If you want to see how it looks pick any existing A4 document you have of 2 pages or more (so most sets of minutes!) and try the printing options.

In the longer term this may be much easier to control than working in columns and should enable you to put a single 3-column page into the middle of the A4 document.

It does include Publisher, but took a dislike to the 2007 version - Found that unlike Word, anything that "fell off" the bottom of the page did not appear at the top of the next. Took me ages to re-edit, this after I had copied and pasted in from Word. Also found that for an image or text box, it seemed to need a lot of clearance between each.

However, it is still there if I need I need it in Office 2013.

Cheers!
