Microsoft's naming is insane, they already have two products called Outlook. Now they'll have three: the webmail service, the traditional desktop app and now the new free UWP app.
Outlook.com == free webmail for consumers with ads
On Windows there is Outlook (part of the Office applications) that today shows a “Try New Outlook” option that downloads this new UWP which appears to just be a wrapper around a web service as it has most functionality missing, including offline support.
On Mac there is Outlook (part of Office) that has a New and Old version within the same download.
And the free Mail/Calendar on Win11 are being replaced by the UWP that paid customers are being offered.
The UWP is at least marked PRE (for Preview, the Azure term for not yet finished, don’t expect it to work).
And of course if you have a MS365 Exchange Online account you get Outlook.office.com web mail without ads.
