Re: Windows 11 PIN- locked out

[re: ARD] [link to this post]

Mouse and sign in issues as described in earlier posts resumed yesterday.

1. I regularly have to reinstall MS mouse drivers.
2. Whenever I restart the laptop, I am faced with a slightly blurred login screen to login with the instruction to provide a PIN. The box to key in the PIN is greyed out. The option to login with MS password does not appear. When the laptop is shut down and rebooted, both options are there.

This is a new ACER system that shipped with Windows 11:

Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 23H2
Installed on ‎23/‎12/‎2023
OS build 22631.2861
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22681.1000.0

I’ve already reset the laptop twice. I’m troubleshooting more that I’m using it normally.

Any ideas?

Take it back and ask for a refund.

Agreed, if its about two weeks old, this is unacceptable hassle.

+2, seems like there's some sort of hardware error.

This is a pain that Microsoft should give the purchaser the choice of not being able to have to keep putting in passwords or pins

The problem of doing away with passwords is that you loose control of your account, as seen by ARD. I tried the pin thin in win11 in a vm and i hated the whole experience.

I prefer authenticator apps plus password plus the ability to break and reset the two. Yes there's weaknesses in the approach but it leaves you in control and moves away for 60 sites with a password that is "password"
