Finding KB Numbers

Is there any easy way of finding KB numbers, given a specific date of release, eg. 29/05/25?

Do you need it? Most updates are cumulative i.e. all previous fixes are included, so if you have the latest update you should be good.

I couldn't find an update on that particular date (the day an update failed - according to the event log), but there are other updates around the same time.
I did try AI, but I kept being given more and more complicated MSDOS commands to enter. The trouble is that the "fail" entry in the log doesn't show the KB number.

I wouldn't worry, as per what Banger has said, the updates will be cumulative so likely been installed already. If of interest however you will likely find what the KB was that failed in:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Just forget about it, not even worth worrying about.

It showed me a couple of errors: on the 12th of May – Failed to GetOneSettingValue for DISABLESCAVENGE [HRESULT=0x83750009]; on the !2th of August – Failed to GetUpdateReserveManagerCbs [HRESULT=0xd000003a NTSTATUS Error]. But I couldn’t relate any of these dates to updates (KB numbers) in the MS Update Catalog.

The Update section is still showing the message “your device is missing important security updates”, and these seem to be holding up the receipt of “quality” updates.

Restart the computer (not shutdown)
Log back in as an admin and run in command prompt
sfc /scannow
Allow to finish
Restart the computer

Download (from Microsoft Update Catalog) the latest cumulative update appropriate for your OS and install it manually by double clicking on the downloaded file, then reboot, then try checking for updates again in Windows Update.

That normally sorts it.

The latest update is KB5072033 a number etched in my RAM lol.

I did everything as you suggested, but unfortunately, double clicking on the downloaded file produced this message:- "Installer encountered an error : 0xca00a005". Do you happen to know what this message means?
