OOhh, Just noted the BIG thread re Zen's problems with speed in general on the 8000 Pro..

Wonder if my 8000 Active account (which looks pretty much the same except for upload speed) is being affected and casuing the slow speeds I'm seeing..

Maybe it's not my fault after all

Hello again BlankFrank :P

I upgraded from my Zen 512 Home account for free with Zen on the 23rd March this year.

However; initially (because all this ADSL malarky is a bit foreign to me) I didnt know about the status page that my router has with the various line rate stats and Signal to noise, Attenuation etc and so happily thought everything was fine.

Once I discovered this info through having waited for the speeds to UP and they didnt; I noted that my SNR was quite bad and that the line rate was at 3200000bps.

It turned out to be my second crappy phone I had and my bad wiring; I kind of stumbled accross this great site http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/lowSNR.htm which gave me the info I needed to sort out my line noise issues.

Once fixed the line speed went from 3200000bps to 6400000bps

So, now after what you have mentioned re this B-Ras thing I'm wondering if BT have fixed my line at 3200000bps because my line had been like that since ADSL Max upgrade till only last week??

If this is the case (or you suspect it might be) then what can I do to find out?

Cheers,
Dan

There are two problems there

The BRAS issue should sort itself after 3 days but in my experience it doesn't and it's more like a week. The other problem you may have is that the fault threshold rate for your line and maximum sustainable rate will be incorrect (see Andrews news item)

Zen may be able to request that BT (re)run the DLM tests on your line.

Ahhh; right; It's all making sense now; I just read the 'BT Wholesale Max product glossary' by Mr Saffron on ADSL Guide and what you have said re the BRAS and MSR seem to fit with my situation.

I'll contact Zen and ask them if they can re-run those tests you mention.

Thanks a lot again for your help BlankFrank.
