Download Speed in Freefall

I always seem to be complaining about this at this time of year.

Installed a brand new Asus RT-N66U router on Sunday evening to replace my Billion 7800n that I was using with my Zen 80/20 FTTC, which was installed 16th July.

Since then my download speed has gone into freefall looking at my Zen Line Data and the BT Performance Tester agrees.

Could this be a fault with the router? Can see how as it is connected after the modem and has nothing to do with the incoming line.
I did notice when I was setting it up that if the router was sitting next to the modem, where the old router sat, and about 1' away from my wireless keyboard/ mouse receiver, my keyboard/mouse would not work, don't know if this is normal or not. So I ended up putting the Router up on the top shelf of the desk and 2' away from any of the other equipment.

Anyway tonight I have reconnected my Billion back up and it is all sat back in it original place. I will reboot the modem in the morning, if it will make any difference like ADSL. So will now wait and see if it gets better.

So if it was caused by the router, how long before it starts gaining speed again?

Have had my lime yoyo seems to be a week to two weeks for dlm to relent

On router maybe a dodgy power supply giving off interference or router.

For me still on 20CN it is fully comparable value as I also have a 2.5x speed increase by using the TT backhaul... Agreed on 21CN or Fibre I'd need to give it some thought and may come back to Zen when that is the case if the price doesn't go down.

That aside though apart from the initial investment in coding the system up it costs peanuts to run.. yet saves customers a hell of a lot of hassle when proving you have line issues etc, it really does beg the question why other ISPs can't offer similar tools that AAISP can to the customer...

Will have to wait now and see if it recovers any speed before I take the router back to Currys/PCWorld.
Don't seem to have had any resyncs since the 28th August

Well the BT Perfomance Tester must have had a wobbly this morning as I now have a IP Profile of 7.11Mbps downstream and 0.83Mbps Upstream, yet speeds were 62/13Mbps on the test.

Speeds seem to be on the way up again today looking at the Zen Line Data has a sync of 72.854Mbps and the BT Performance Tester has the IP Profile at 70.52Mbps

Now do I try the ASUS RT-N66U router again to confirm my suspicions or do I return it for a another or exchange it for the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 or any other good router you can recommend?

Well it turned out to be a faulty router/power supply.
I returned it and got another, exact same model, and the speed is now at the full 80/20 sync again.
