Considering a move to Zen

[link to this post]

I'm currently on Aquiss and I have a FRITZ!Box 7690 which I would like to use as it's better then the Zen supplied box. I am on BTOR FTTP which has recently had a major upgrade in the area, The OR checker says 1600 available although Zen only offers 900. I'd probably take that service anyway with the current price offer.

How are Zen these days, are they reliable? Can I use my existing Fritz!box, do they offer static IPv4 and IPv6 and no CGNAT

No CGNAT And you get a static IP ipv4 and 6 And yes your router Will work with zen 900 ,

To clarify, with Zen IPv6 is an optional extra that has to be requested, (via your online Zen portal). They do not charge either setup or ongoing fees for IPv6 though.

I thought that Zen offered up to 2Gbps. Their Full Fibre Max product gives me 1,6Gbps.

The maximum speed available over Openreach FTTP depends on whether Zen has its own network at your handover point or is using BT Wholesale. The maximum speed on BT Wholesale is the 900 tier.

A supplementary from someone also considering future broadband options. The 900Mbps BTW tier offer includes a F!B 7530AX. I am currently using Eero as my modem/router. Will Zen consider replacing the F!B with a Eero?

You can use your own router with Zen. I doubt Zen will supply anything other than their standard router.

Absolutely no chance of Zen supplying you a different router.

Why not just 'be brave' and use your own router? You can use whatever you like then and Zen won't care.

Aquiss recently started to offer the 1600 (raw speed 1800) service now, have you checked if it's available where you are? I don't know the technical details of how they provide it - it could even be over the Zen wholesale network.

Another option you could look at is Olilo prosumer, which also meets your IP requirements. The 1600/110 on 12 months is priced the same as Aquiss (£60), but they're doing a deal on 24 month contracts currently (£49)

With Zen you'd be paying (I think) £56 per month, and part of that money is to pay for a router you don't want. I'm not sure if it's yours-to-keep and you could resell it on eBay though.
