...do you think they will try to help me with a problem that Eclipse can't, as they are obviously too busy just trying to keep their heads above water!
It's the old SNR chestnut again.
Long line, too high a connection, low snr, evening time = loss of sync (very often!)
Eclipse send all the usual copy & paste stuff, reckon BT say 'it's all ok'.....I must be hallucinating then!
Eclipse website is currently read only, tickets can take forever (or be closed without reply) and they aint answering the phone!
<sigh> patience is thin.

If you've got "Long line, too high a connection, low snr" then you're better off on a fixed rate service than MAX currently. I'd try Nildram.

Cheers buggerlugz...they do a 2Mb fixed....bit low maybe???
I'm sure my line/SNR will happily withstand a connection of 2.5 -3Mbps.....it's just this silly 4Mbps and higher thats making it fall over all the time.

that extra 50-120KB/s more isn't worth the hassle MAX would give you in my view, especially if you've got a long line anyway.

The wise words of MrSaffron, in an AG news article: "if you are on an ultra stable fixed speed connection, then at this time think twice before trying to wring the last ounce of speed out of the line by switching to a Max product. The previous BT Wholesale products with their conservative planning limits has largely insulated the UK ADSL broadband populace from the joys of seeing lines drop during thunderstorms and other transient noise spikes."

c_j & buggerlugz.....hear what you say guys....I'm not a speed junkie by any stretch, but what's really hacking me off is that the BT system SHOULD be the perfect solution.
Instead of being tied to a fixed, and often artificially low, connection put in place a dynamic system that regulates the speed dependant upon the conditions.
EASY!!
...trouble is, it don't f****ing work!!

In a nutshell: yes, we will try and help. If you are experiencing an intermittent connection and we can obtain a full set of diagnostics with which perform root-cause analysis, we'll do our utmost to get it fixed. In the event of a fault being diagnosed as residing on BT's network, we have a dedicated BT DSL faults team in tech support for this very purpose.
Out of interest, what are the stats from your router when you have sync? And have you observed them fluctuate, or do they remain steady?

Thanks m8
Which stats in particular are you interested in?
Usual stuff (at the moment)....
Speed down - 3424
Line Att. - 50.5
SNR - 5.5
The latter can, and does, drop alarmingly at times (was at 1 earlier!)....attenuation hovers around that (+/- 2)...speed goes all over.....that figure is the lowest I've seen in a while, it's usually around 3.8 - 4.3.

Well they turned on interleaving.....stopped the terrible loss of sync and to be honest I haven't noticed any difference in online gaming performance (or maybe I'm just [censored]).
Any thoughts?

I had the same problem. My old Netgear router would sync between 5200 - 6600, with about 3-4 disconnects a day, usually at night and in the early mornings. I bought myself a Belkin 7633 router, did the SNR tweak and increased it. I've now been synced at 4600 for 2 weeks now, I've dropped 60K in download speed but crucially I've had no disconnects.
