Is zen owned by a larger group?

[link to this post]

Hi im currently with pipex and am looking for a more reliable service.Nildram have always had good reviews until this year same as pipex. But i found that they are owned by the same company. So reading zen reviews looks good but are they owned by pipex/nildram or some other broadband provider.Have they been taken over recently?Don't want to jump ship and find im back to square one.

Cheers

They aren't, as fare as I am aware of, at least today. That said, money talks and while there may "be no current plans", things change over night in this industry.

As others have said, completely independent company now in its 10th year and growing in strength all the time. Currently having new headquarters built from the ground up. There is a link on their site with more info on this and how they are doubling their staff over the next year or so.

Zen are completely self sufficient, no parent companies/groups. It's been frequently stated that this is the intention and it is expected to stay this way. Of course, you can't say never, but I've seen zero indication of any takeover or desire for such.

Just a small word of caution to prevent the torrents of flames that we see on these forums... Zen may be independent for the next 10 years, maybe forever. However, we all know this is a fast changing industry. They certainly aren't going to let us all know or ask our permission on these forums when they start to talk to someone who is offering them the right price.

I say that to make a point. It was less than six months ago when we heard they had "no current plans to introduce capping". Of course, when they did, there was the usual flames flying around. A word to the wise... enjoy what it is today. Good and probably one of the last independent companies. Things change though.

Hello doc, yes, I agree. They have grown steady over the last 10 years or so, but now are well established with new headquarters on the way. Winning several awards each year and must look very attractive to an outsider looking for a provider with a good customer base. As you say, enjoy what we have now and don't worry about the future.

I suspected they'd been taken over by PlusNet somewhere around the middle of March
