Anybody having speed problems tonight?

[link to this post]

No matter what I do, I can't get over 30k on P2P or normal web browsing.
I upgraded from the 2mb service about a week ago to the MaxDSL service and I'm synching at about 6mb. I've tried switching everything off, unplugging my modem from the wall and rebooting my PC, but to no avail.
I did an adslguide speedtest and it came up as about 230kbps, so something is not right here.
Am I alone?

No, you're not alone...
I've been having serious download speeds since I upgraded from 2mb to 8mb too!
It doesn't seem to have improved at all!!!

Is the problem still present?

What happens if you try a download from:

http://download.zensupport.co.uk/ ? Are the speeds similar to what you've seen on the ADSLGuide speed test?

If you're still having speed issues I'd suggest contacting Support for further assistance (open until 5pm today, or from 8am on Monday).

regards,
Phil.

If you're seeing speeds around 2Mbit/s then it's unlikely to be a similar issue to what the OP is experiencing.

Is your line rate higher than 2Mbit/s? How long ago did you regrade to a Max service? What kind of speeds are you seeing?

It will help everybody to understand what might be affecting you if you can provide us all with some information.

regards,
Phil.

The problems are still there, I rang customer support a while ago and ran the 3 BT speed tests as requested, all came back at around 240kbps. All I was told is that because my line dropped last night it's caused the temp BRAS to set at 256kbps (I'm 8 days into my initial test period) and I should wait 3 days to see if the problem rectifies itself.
Does this sound right?
For some reason I don't think waiting is going to make any difference, but I'll give it a go.
If BT have set my perm BRAS to 256kbps I'll be exceptionally annoyed considering I got 2mb without any problems at all before sacrificing my uncapped service to go to the MaxDSL service.

3 days is how long BT say the BRAS will take to change based on your sync speed. It didn't used to work properly, and there were a lot of people with stuck speeds. Apparently this was fixed earlier this month and now it will take no more than 3 days to change - I'm not holding my breath

    Hi,

If your line has dropped to a low line rate then the BRAS profile will have changed, and can taken between 75 minutes and three days to rise again - assuming your line doesn't reconnect at a speed consistent with the 256kbps BRAS profile.

If you don't see improvement, and it is due to the connection dropping again, It may be worth ensuring your filters are all configured correctly and, ideally, site your router at your BT master socket - just in case something in your premises has caused the connection to drop at some point and reconnect at such a low level. It's also worth ensuring none of your filters are faulty. There's some more general advice on intermittent connection faults in our Knowledge Base here:

    regards,
    Phil.

Phil does one still need to disconnect the PPP session in order to effect a BRAS rate change ?

Which is particularly annoying when the 'low sync event' is due to BT.

Work at the exchange caused my line to sync at 588 (down) for 8 minutes early one morning which capped my downloads to 60KB/s for the next 5+ days.

Zen did nothing to help - and wouldn't chase it up with BT. In fact it took them 2 days for their last reply at which point I kinda gave up on them as a useful resource.

Still not as bad as PlusNet though - at least when they finally replied, it was obvious they had actually read my e-mail

    <sorry MrChris I couldn't resist it>

I completely fail to understand whilst after the training period the BRAS profile don't lock at its peak value?

Why does it continue to be rate adaptive after the training period, why don't it just fix at that peak speed and a router reboot auto reconnects at that peak speed?

If BT is so lacking in bandwidth it needs to do that at every opportunity surely it begs the question why did they release "upto 8mb" when they did?
