Mail to Pipex bounced?

[link to this post]

Good morning,

Is anyone having trouble sending mail to @dsl.pipex.com addresses from zen in the last 12 hours or so? All mail I try and send to Pipex from any of my @zen.co.uk addresses gets bounced with 554:Sender Address Rejected. Mail from gmail / hotmail etc gets through fine.

Just curious if it's just me, or a global thing.

Sounds like Pipex have blacklisted Zen to me.. I'm guessing that the 554 comes back from one of Pipex's mailservers, not Zens, right?

now NAMESCO HomeMax+ - at 2.5Mb sync at ADSLguide

Yeah exactly. Definately looks like blacklisting on Pipex's side, I was just trying to figure out if it was the entire zen.co.uk (cheers!) or just the couple of aliases I have...

Maybe they're fed up with Pipex group customers leaving for Zen so decided to try and make it more difficult for them to get Zen's welcome e-mails etc :-)

Tis speculation, but I have seen this in the real world a couple of times... petty but amusing.

I've seen this for some time - I used to route to Pipex directly, but then had trouble so had to use mailhost.zen.co.uk; are you sending directly using your own mailserver or through mailhost.zen.co.uk?

Thanks guruchill. I run my own server but it doesn't send directly, it routes everything outbound to mailhost.zen.co.uk.

Also I *was* getting the same error when sending by webmail, but I just tried that and my test seems to have gone through...Fingers crossed it was just an over-eager Pipex mail admin who has seen the error of his ways

Yeah, either the Pipex admins are taking the mick, and directly blocking or they run an external blacklist from someone like

sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org
or
spam.dnsbl.sorbs.net

As incidently I saw some issues recently with some users on ZEN with an SMTP filter running one of these lists above, as I believe Sorbs 'had' (or may still) have blacklisted

212.23.3.140 = ZENs 'Pythagorus' mail server

as a spam relay

Hi

I am able to send to @dsl.pipex.com. Both my mum & sister are still with pipex (poor souls ) and I am receiving and sending mail to them no problems at all. I sent a reply to mum this morning and haven't had it bounce (as yet)

With Pipex it is very hard to know whether they are being clever and vindictive, or just plain stupid, because it seems that most people in Pipex CS at the moment couldn't find their own backsides, even with a map.
