DNS Issues?

[link to this post]

rebooted the router this morning as there appeared to be a problem browsing.

had to reenter connection details as i had forgot to go through the routers weird permanent save method.

anyhow it reconnects to zen and i browse to google, no problems, i do a test search, no problems.

i fire up speedtest.net, no problems, until i click on the server to use and it just hangs on "connecting".

i try a few sites from my favourites list none of them worked.

so is there a problem with zen dns?

Had a couple of the usual "server not found" appear last night, but nothing this morning.

Have you been fiddling with your MTU or blocked ping on your router?

no, the mtu is whatever it always has been (1500? not at home so can't check). only nat/firewall is enabled - this has always been the case.

as far as i know ping is not blocked, when i do a traceroute to the ip it times out at zen tho.

If you can lay your hands on a spare one its worth giving it a try.

It sounds like Path MTU Discovery is failing, which will result in some sites not working.

running a NSLOOKUP domain.com in a command prompt should tell you if your PC can resolve the address to an IP.

thanks for the advice.

i rang zen @ 17:30 and got through to a tech in about 10 minutes. the config on the router (is some Addon cheapie from novatech) had gone a bit screwy (although to me it looked ok through the browser). a quick router reset an reentry of the basic details and all was well.

Thanks zen your support was fantastic
