As for the upgrade i would put money on the fact AVG is blocking the firmware. Download the new firmware and try disabling AVG completely or using FF.

Also just to check you are not trying to do the upgrade via wireless are you. I know some modems support it, but i personally don't trust the wireless way to work properly.

Disconnect your cable from the router to the phone socket. This in turn disconnects you from the WWW and 'nasties'

And if the upgrade works then remember to turn on AVG when reconnected.

Generally you should be safe behind a NAT device without any AV if you are careful about where you go and what you download on the computer.

I disabled the Firewall and still got no luck.

Disconnecting from Internet would mean I could not access the Netgear router webpage

What part of AVG could be blocking the firmware?

Any thoughts welcome.

Phantom 66

AVG is not my Router, it is my Software Internet Security suite.

Thus your reply was somewhat puzzling.

Urm no - the Netgear webpage at http://192.168.0.1 will be accesible even if the ADSL line did not exist, i.e. they meant disconnect the ADSL cable.

A network connection should still exist over the network cable between your cable and the router.
