Commercial Breaks & Beats Forum

[link to this post]

I don't regularly visit the Commercial Breaks & Beats site, but it is a handy resource for finding out what music is used in some adverts.

When I recently went to the site's forums, I received the following message:
In reply to:

Critical Information

You have been banned from this forum.
Please contact the webmaster or board administrator for more information.

Now I'm not a registered user so AFAIK I haven't been banned for misbehaving. The funny thing is that several other Zen-based ADSL accounts I have access to also appear to have been banned.

Can some of you other Zen customers try accessing the website's forums here:

http://www.commercialbreaksandbeats.co.uk/forum/

and let me know if you can get access? I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who has an IP address in the 217.155.x.x range.

TIA.

217.155 range and banned too. I expect a Zen user with 8 ip addresses or more maybe all of his 8 ip block was 217.155 so the webmaster just banned the entire zen 217.155 range. maybe the webmaster doesn't realise that Zen users have static ip's and thought they were dynamic so banned the entire range to try to stop someone on Zen causing abuse. I've heared of webmasters banning entire isp's ip ranges before due to someone causing abuse and just reconnecting there router to get a new dynamic ip and starting there abuse again.

All you can do is what it says and contact the webmaster and inform him they have banned loads of totaly innocent people and hope that he re conciders his ban on the entire ip range or whatever he's done, maybe link him him to this forum too.

Also tell him if you do contact the webmaster to report the ip address/s used in whatever abuse was caused to his forum to send the offending entire ip address/s to [email protected] as Zen are very good at dealing with abuse and will prolly contact the person which which made that forum ban the ip range.

Yes, I'm in that range, and I - having never heard of or been to that website before - find that I'm banned too!

Thanks to all that replied.

Yes, as I suspected it seems that the 217.155.x.x range has been blocked, but other Zen ranges appear (as yet) to be unaffected. The blocking appears to have been rather arbitrary.

I've also discovered a couple of other ranges that are blocked (notably the range used by my employer) which again seems to have been done arbitrarily.

I've tried contacting the site admin (twice) but so far have yet to get any sort of response.

Here is a quick way around the block which i've tested and works lol.

Go to http://www.hidemyass.com/ and then browse to the forum through that proxy and it works lol.

Edit warning about that proxy. While i've used it for quite some time and it seems safe i would NEVER trust it with using a website like amazon etc through it where your billing info is transfered etc or even with hotmail.

Thanks, but I'd never trust a proxy that I knew nothing about. As you say, fine for general websites but anything that requires you to login etc. (and especially anything that could give access to credit cards or bank details) is something to keep well clear of any proxy.
