losing sync

[link to this post]

My friend is on zen upto 8mbit and he keeps losing sync. He's done the general checks no unfiltered devices connected to phoneline checked wiring etc. Yet he still keeps losing sync is stats are

Noise Margin (Upstream) 16.0 db
Noise Margin (Downstream) 7.5 db
Attenuation (Upstream) 31.5 db
Attenuation (Downstream) 59.5 db

The noise margin downstreem which he's been watching he's noticed in his own words "goes mental" just before he loses sync. It drops to minus something then upto 40 and then it loses sync.

any advice?

It is important to post the actual sync speed that goes with those figures as in isolation it is hard to interpret them.

Behaviour is example of noise that can come and go, normal way to mitigate this is raise the target margin which slows the sync and gives more safety room to avoid the resyncs.

Have they tried the modem in the test socket at the master socket to make sure the home wiring is not picking up undue noise

Blackmesa,

I would suggest the following before we try raising the fault to BTW:

1) Check all internal devices, such as fridges and the likes, including hotwater systems.
2) Buy an XTE-2005 from ADSL Nation
3) make sure your friend is not on an extension socket
4) Try a different modem/router

If this fails then please ask your friend to call support so we can raise a fault for them.

Kindest Regards,
