BT outage last night ?

[link to this post]

@Zen - am I missing something from the status pages??

Did BT stop announcing there routes to you last night just after midniight ?

Did lots of DSL customers go off line ?

Had no connection from 00:36:59 till Jun 9 04:49:45

logging; PPP Closed : CHAP Time-out (PPPoA)

Nothing I can see on the status page - had to get all my info from another ISP who updates there status info out of hours..

I had the same:

00:22:59 pppd CHAP authentication failed
00:22:59 pppd Connection terminated.

Possibly something do do with this?

Not from what I can tell no.

That problem started a few days ago, and just says your connections will be up but no traffic may pass. It don't read like a BRAS problem to me...

I think this was an un expected problem caused by a BT PEW in Birmingham last night. I had an update at half 1 this morning saying BT had dropped all there BGP routes to there own BRAS's.

There was then further updates which have pointed towards the PEW BT where doing and the fact it had caused problems to all providers who use BTWS.

There was also an outage on 21CN-BRAS-RED1-MR-DH at 00:29 last night

Ah. Right.
I have two other (non-Zen) DSL circuits here used for work only, so didn't notice they'd also been affected as they are only used during the day and were OK when used this morning.

My Zen service though is used all the time as it hosts some services, so I was able to see the outage in the logs. Not the end of the world for me as I don't use it for anything truly critical, (web, mail & FTP server), but somewhat annoying as it has delayed some mails being received. Just have to wait for the sending host to retry...

Any of the Zen guys have any info?

I lost service at 02:00 and it still hadn't come back at 03:00 when I went to bed, but was back up at 06:00 when I woke up.

This looked like planned works in my local exchange in Derbyshire though.

I had another early this afternoon:

12:23:00 pppd Connection terminated.
[...]
12:41:22 pppd CHAP authentication succeeded

It's been OK since though.
