Junction box causing drop outs?

For a long time, several years, I have experienced drop outs especially when raining/damp.

I wonder if the reason is my junction box:-

This box is just under the plastic gutter of my house. I do not know how long it has been like this but could be a number of years; next doors tree brought my drop wire down and this may be the connections after that incident It was BT who replaced the drop wire; I assume as I was on holiday at the time.

Should I get Zen to call in BT to look at?

Ring Zen, and ask them to carry out a CIDT test.

Yes the crimps look grotty, and maybe even a spot of corrosion visible on the A leg (orange) about half an inch back from the crimp. This may not be the cause of your issue though, theres a fair bit more copper between you and the exchange !

If the CIDT test passes, who provides the voice service ? Ring them, sound 'blonde' and tell them you are concerned about exposed wires on your eaves, they could be dangerous !

Contacted Zen who are arranging for for a BT engineer to do a full trace.

I have also removed the face plate and plugged a filter into the test socket to eliminate any house wiring.

I await next Wednesday!

BT Engineer arrived at 8:00 am.

Tested test socket; ok.

Rewired junction box; "a bit manky" was his technical description. Showed me the connector. What should be a white/red unit was grotty black! Junction box now closed so weather should not get inside.

Now have to wait for some inclement weather to see if drop outs cured.

three cables ? where do they go - I was expecting a dropwire and a run down to the master.

It's a bit complicated.

There used to be just two wires; one in and one down to the master socket in the lounge. When broadband was brought in, in the days when you got a free engineer install, I paid to have my master socket moved to the upstairs study. That meant a third wire. The wire down to the lounge is still there but not connected any more.
