TL;DR It's time that the ruling allowing line rental to be hidden in the small print was reversed. I believe that consumer telecommunications contracts should have a "summary box" laying out the total charges, minimum contract period and effective monthly cost for that minimum period in a standardised and easily comparable format.

Totally agree, though I would say a Pulse8 line only cost of £13 is very good - Exactly what zen was a couple of months ago. Line and BB for £25 is decent when it's contract free and micro call costs. That said, the worst thing with line rental subsidising click-bait broadband prices, is the effect on the less well off or elderly. Even worse for those with no interest in the Internet. That along with mobile use, we will be looking at the demise of landline rental. A pity every line is not naked broadband,

Is that naked DSL as in a dummy line? or a copper pair only? I ask as that's what I had and that was £10 a month because it was essential. If you mean naked DSL as in something FTTP based then that would make sense. This is one of the things many people like about cable (even though I know it's not true FTTP but it's as close as for those who can't get it)

I agree the prices are very good for your line before and after you add fiber

In this context "naked DSL" is a metallic pair ("line") with some form of DSL - either ADSL2+ or VDSL2 (FTTC) - but no voice service other than possibly the ability to call 999/112.

I see - that's what I had with A&A just a copper pair with no voice services or dial tone. Just a message on it saying it was a monitored line and not to disconnect it. It still had a number and showed up on the checkers

Yes I agree I do so hate this "hidden extras" way of advertising and I dislike like that Zen have got in on the act too.

I have recently been looking at the compression sites as I have been thinking of moving to FTTC, they do not present the information much clearer and I did not find one that compared the providers on anything other then headline price. Some options like rate limiting, static IP, content filtering etc. would of been nice to see.

Various (Dile up) -> clara.net (Dile up) -> TELE2 (Microwave) -> ZeN (ADSL)

AA do all this and even give you a link to your consumer rights. Zen don't hide it. It clearly says the prrice for LR and ADSL - I assume the monthly contract means 30 days notice.

But nothing hidden from me.

Was thinking all lines naked dsl to even out loss leading broadband crippling less well off with line rental. We have taken to most folks using dect phones, so voip would not be such a leap for a standard.
