Re: Slow speed after GEA migration

Yes, i know the only difference really is that it has WiFi 6. The current router handles 900mbps all day long via ethernet but only around 500mbps via WiFi, so the WiFi 6 capability would be nice to have.

And yes I use ethernet for as much as possible, it's just phones, tablets, laptops and a Nintendo switch and smart meter on WiFi.

And yes I'm very aware that getting "only" 500mbps via WiFi is quite the 1st world problem 😁

In reply to a post by E300:
Have you tried enabling TCP timestamps. MAC OS I think has this enabled by default, Windows doesn't. The timestamps help TCP update its retransmission timer, and can improve speeds when there are transmission errors, especially on faster connections.

From a command prompt as admin:

Text
1
netsh int tcp set global timestamps=enable

Reboot and see if it can cope with the errors better? You can switch back by running the same command with disable.

No noticeable difference I'm afraid

It could even come down to something like differences in firmware in a line card on otherwise identical kit…
Lets hope not.

Something has fallen through the cracks during interoperability testing…there’d be a fair few possible permutations…

No, as I elected to stay on Zen's kit.

I had a call earlier saying that they've replaced some kit in the exchange but it didn't have the desired effect.

They will call me again in 48 hours.

Its good they are still trying to resolve the issue but at some point they will run out of possible things to try, have you set yourself a deadline when you will stop wanting to be a guinea pig?

When they run out of things to try I think we will mutually agree to migrate me back to BT Wholesale backhaul. I don't think they'll want me to have free broadband forever and I would eventually like the speed back 🙂

I just wondered how it was going! My experience seems to fully vindicate my insistence that the problem was NOT my end, despite being guided to several routers, wacky ideas, turn this or that on or off etc etc.

The problem is 100% with the Zen GEA migration, that's now 100% proven I think, the questions arising out of that rumble on however......

For my part, the coincidence of the migration / connection problems, and unmigration back to BTW / connection stability is proof enough.

It would be really good to know if it was just FakeJake and myself affected, and if migrations continue still?

It would be good to know if their are any other Zen customers on either your's or Jakes Openreach exchanges or OLTs and if they are unknowingly having the same issue if migrated.
