As I've already said, they have an ECI ONT and I have the Huawei.

Regarding smashing FTTP take up, then yes, I expect we do, as the entire area never got FTTC, it went straight to FTTP only, or around 3ishMbps ADSL.

There has recently been lots of what I presume is "infill" activity in the area... It's not uncommon now to see the old and new style of CBTs on the poles around the area now...

Their speeds seem to be around 300 but I assumed at the time that was because I was testing via WiFi 🤔

I have no reason to doubt the engineer, he said he hated dealing with the ECI system as only a subset of people within Openreach can deal with it, meaning he is often on hold when he has to call up their back office to check config or provision a new ONT.

In comparison, when he swapped my ONT, he just scanned the barcode on the front and a minute later it was provisioned and working. "This is so much easier". He seemed to know his stuff and did genuinely care about the issues which I know isn't always the case.

In reply to a post by Pheasant:
John - what about the (remote) possibility that they are on different sides of an exchange boundary, therefore each in a different handover exchange serving area?

So therefore fed from a completely different CBT -> splitter -> Ag node and ultimately OLT and handover exchange?

I believe the entire area is served by CHESTER SOUTH

Thanks for confirming, if it turns out that your neighbour has been GEA migrated then I personally think a lot can be learnt form the differences between you and your neighbour.

If anyone at Zen is reading this, please don't move me to the ECI system 🤣

You can't order the 500Mb package on an ECI OLT. The order is rejected, not limited to 500Mb.

ECI FTTP customers are straight up limited to the 330/50 package. It's not a throughput limitation. It's because of what I said above, the 1Gb ports to the rear of the OLT.

An ISP selling 500Mb to an ECI customer would be giving that 1 single customer half an entire GEA cablelink.

Something doesn't add up. It's either not an ECI OLT or they aren't on the 500Mb package.

Thanks for the update. I've asked in the main Fibre forum about your rather interesting ECI / Huawei exchange setup.

Is your neighbour on the Zen 500 Mbps service aware that his service is physically capped at c.300 Mbps - so overpaying for a service which is not deliverable to them?

Edit: - I see John has jumped in whilst I was typing....

It would be deliverable. It is capable of that throughput after all.

Database errors occur showing 1000/220 to ECI customers but any who attempt to order have it rejected, over and over and over.

The ECI OLT's simply don't hold line profiles above 330/50 meaning any order above that speed is automatically rejected.

It isn't possible.

Edit: here's 2 examples of that happening, including with Zen.

Yes agreed wink

The neighbour can only be getting Zen 300 Mbps package if they are on ECI-based OLT and ONT. Do they think that they are supposed to be getting the 500 Mpbs service or is it confusion or something else. Dunno....

All I know:
I'm on Zen 900 and have a Huawei ONT
They are on Zen 500 and have an ECI ONT

Everything that the Openreach engineer has said to me is in previous posts. We can either believe it or not, but it's the only source I have for this info.

When we ordered the package for my neighbours (yes I helped them as they aren't knowledgeable and thought 3Mbps Sky ADSL was the best they could get), I don't think 300Mbps was an option. It was 900, 500 and something lower (100? Can't remember, but it was quite a bit lower).

Unless someone from Openreach can comment here, I doubt we will get anything more to confirm or correct what I've been told.

Edit: just checked the BTW checker for next door and it does say 1000/220 is available (same as me)
