My next door neighbours are on Zen and their speed is fine (i tested it to compare).

No idea if they are on BTW or Zen GEA or otherwise, but I do know that they are on the older ECI Openreach fibre system and I'm on the newer Huawei system.
This was confirmed by the Openreach engineer... The thinking is that the ECI system was here first (in about 2011) but when it "filled up", the additional capacity that was added was Huawei kit, and I'm connected to that as I had to have a new FTTP install when I moved here, but it was already installed next door.
And yes that means we have different ONTs. Those ECI boxes sure look ugly if you ask me

thats interesting. Are they literally next door? If their house is FTTP enabled then I'd expect them to be on a GEA backhaul. But as far as I can tell you are the only customer connected to your particular cable link. It is possible they are connected via a different cable link, but they'll all come back to the same aggregation device in the exchange.

Zen must have 10G and 1G cablelinks to respectively the Huawei OLT(s) and the ECI OLT in that handover exchange?

That's correct. The max speed we provide customers on an ECI OLT is 300Mbps (330/50 profile).

We wouldn't sell a customer a 500Mbps service and provision it as 300Mbps. From time to time we accept a 500Mbps order from a customer, but the order would be rejected down stream. In those cases we'd discuss the customer's options and providing they're happy reorder as 330/50.

Unless someone from Openreach can comment here, I doubt we will get anything more to confirm or correct what I've been told.

You can't get much more reliable a source than Ajays (Zens Senior Product Manager for Broadband).

Edit: just checked the BTW checker for next door and it does say 1000/220 is available (same as me)

As I mentioned previous to this post, the BT Wholesale checker often reports 1000/220 for FTTP connected to an ECI OLT incorrectly.
Orders above 330/50 are automatically rejected by Openreach, as in the 2 examples I linked.

Perhaps Openreach have since moved your neighbours PON to the Huawei OLT.
Maybe they have a 4 port Huawei ONT and not an ECI ONT? Cosmetically they are almost identical with neither having the manufacturer branding on the outer shell. You need to look at the sticker on the rear to see who the manufacturer is.

The ECI OLTs simply don't have line profiles above 330/50 and Ajays sounds confident Zen wouldn't sell 500Mb that's provisioned at 300Mb.

To be honest I've no idea. Either way your neighbour isn't on 500Mb or they aren't on an ECI OLT.

Next door's ONT is definitely ECI and mine is definitely Huawei.

You said earlier…
Their speeds seem to be around 300 but I assumed at the time that was because I was testing via WiFi 🤔

WiFi won’t be the limit it will be the bandwidth capped at the ECI ONT

Lets all just celebrate that you've got a Huawei ONT/OLT as none of us would be happy with a ECI 🤣

We have to celebrate the little things in life 🙂

Today's update: Test cable links are in/almost in. Hopefully more news on Monday.

No idea where these links are but the fault manager seems happy that they'll have more news on Monday.

Today's update:

Tests with the new test setup has revealed that the test kit is all working perfectly and does not exhibit the issue.

I think at this point it sounds like they're just going to replace everything possible because it seems impossible to trace this issue.

😂 Yikes!

Presumably all the Zen kit. Openreach side of things has a clean bill of health?

Yes thats what it sounds like they were saying. "Openreach want all new equipment. It could take up to two weeks but usually arrives in a few days"
