YOU COULDN'T MAKE IT UP!!!
30 seconds after my previous post, my connection died... Try a few things, and then look at the ONT.... Red LOS light now on!

I have reported it to Zen, and awaiting the supplier (BTW presumably) then Zen will call me back..... Or was my comment too controversial and someone pulled the plug? !

Don't you love conspiracy theories? Anyway, back to tethering frown

I'm also tethering but I've almost used my allowance 😕

Red LOS light is a problem with the PON so that's firmly an Openreach problem.

I jumped on the 900mbps package as soon as it was launched so I'm actually "saving" £70/month with this arrangement. Obviously it's very different when there's no connection at all...

I could sign a new contract and lower the monthly cost to £60 but there's no reason for me to do that at the moment. And having no connection at all isn't exactly a great incentive to sign the dotted line either.

I emailed my fault manager on Friday with the news but heard nothing back by Saturday afternoon so called up and they took my availability for an engineer visit should one be needed. Got an email saying it has been raised and I'll hear back once they know more. That's it so far.

Well, from the days I was on BT business broadband, I have my mobile connection still with BT Business, pay only £15 +VAT for unlimited internet (I had threatened to leave), so not 'too' bad (7.5Mbps at the moment), but as I also have servers here, so my domain(s) won't be served until the LOS issue is sorted, and as you say, that'll be with Openjoke.

Regarding the free connection, yes, it WOULD be £70/month if you had 900Mbps, but you don't do you? not sure where you are, but I guess around 100Mbps with the fault, even slower tethering? That would be way cheaper connection, so the maths isn't really that simple.

I just hope that my sudden fault is equally suddenly fixed, but I am really, really surprised that you have been so tolerant with the fault that you have, You don't have to change, just get UnMigrated!

Is FTTP rocket science? I'm starting to wonder......

I can only speak for next door, they're fine

Stands to reason as they’re on a different PON and actually completely different OLT (back to an ECI as I recall)

Yes i did think that perhaps it wouldn't matter if they were fine and I wasn't.

I'm back online now, i think permanently. Hopefully.

It came back earlier and speeds were improved, but it lasted about 30 minutes and went off again.

Since it came back after that, speed is [censored] again. But at least it's back 🥴

Edit: apologies for the censored word there. It wasn't actually a "strong" word at all... I'll remember to avoid it from now on though

Re: Slow speed after GEA migration

[re: FakeJake] [link to this post]

So, I've had a pretty rotten time with this connection since the Friday incident.

Almost nothing works reliably now as connections just seem to hang randomly.

Openreach want to come out and run tests on Friday.

I expressed my frustration to Brandon directly out of desperation and received a call from Andrew.

They really want to keep my broken connection so that they can fix whatever the problem with it is, but at the same time I can't carry on with it in the state it's in.

So the proposal is that I get an entirely seperate fibre and ONT installed and a fully working Zen connection is provided though it for me to use, and I'll keep the broken connection for them to work on...

Fingers crossed this pans out and I'll have a nice connection again soon! 🙂

I just wonder how weird this is going to seem to the Openreach engineer that comes to install it, and whoever ends up living here after us one day and has two ONTs 🤣

If they are giving you that option then hopefully they have checked to ensure there is an available CBT port on your DP for the second connection as sometimes Openreach want to provide the second service over the same CBT and fibre to a 4 port ONT.

Unless I’m missing something obvious here - they would surely have to put you on a completely separate PON for this to be beneficial.

If they don’t and just give you another drop from the same CBT then your still talking to the same optics in the exact same OLT port / same card etc...

So how would that be “better” / what does that prove.

Unless they’re planning to give you a drop from the neighbours DP which was going back to an ECI OLT (in the same headend exchange?)

Surely wouldn't use Zen Backhaul (like Steve) as thats where the issue was introduced.
