Is that the second line card on this OLT they’ve swapped now?

The first one failed about 11/12 days ago…

https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/zen/t/4714735-re-s...

They apparently only reseated it the first time, which, if anything, made things worse.

I wonder if you're not only the one customer on this PON, but the one customer on this particular line card (8 to 16 PONs per card typically).

Otherwise there'd surely be dozens or hundreds of customer complaints.

Not sure it's that simple though. The BTW service has been fine since it went live, which is supplied through the same ONT (and therefore the same OLT etc).

Unless I'm missing something. I know a lot more about FTTP since this started, but I'm still an outsider really

To be honest, there’s so much downright weird stuff covered in this thread, it’s all completely bemusing.

My presumption twas a GPON line card that was re-seated / replaced whatever it is that Openreach did. Doing so would cause a general interruption to services on all services using that card, multiple PONs potentially, and all services running over each of theirs PONs.

Now it may be that a completely different line card was replaced - perhaps not even on the OLT itself but elsewhere that only interfaces to the Zen Cablelink - the only thing I can think of would be the L2S (Layer 2 switch)….

My thoughts exactly. It can't have been the GPON line card as that would have interrupted the BT Wholesale service too, which didn't happen.

It must be something in the L2S which carried the Zen cablelinks but not those for BT Wholesale. Feels like a bad batch - either a batch issue which would affect all CPs similarly, but BT Wholesale tend to be in early and on the first line card which is delivered with the switch... later when Zen order cablelinks, more cards are installed from a new batch. Or it could be that it's an obscure interoperability fault only related to that batch of cards and Zen's vendor of choice.

I'd also suggest that other CPs may be experiencing this issue but don't know it, as Zen still does attract a more knowledgeable user base who are less likely to be fobbed off.

And then some! I'm trying to follow all this, but also, it's not really adding up, and the wierd possibilities at FakeJake's that are being hinted at, would surely be unlikely as a common fault for all of us that had issues? Even more reasons to follow this thread, as there will have to be some sort of declaration as to the real root cause?

You would like to think so but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yes my bad for presuming it was a GPON line card, I think when Jake posted about an "Openreach optical line card failed" on the 17th and then subsequent PON outage, I had presumed this to the the GPON card in the OLT, but subsequent updates rule that out pretty much entirely.

So its the L2S and its line cards.

Bad batch / faulty or a hitherto unseen/untested vendor interoperability issue with Zen's GEA switch and that of Openreach?

You wasn't the only one who thought that, I immediately thought the same until further info was posted.

You might be waiting a while. I don't think anyone is all too happy with the situation and how it has been handled by OR. I don't think anyone thinks we have found a proper root cause either.

I've swapped myself back to the GEA/on-net connection now at the request of Zen to properly test it out (For now, I can always swap back to port 2 on the ONT should anything go wrong...).

Looking fine so far. It's also nice to not have two routers plugged in 🤣
