Random packet loss on BQM only?

I've been with Zen on CityFibre for 18 months and have been experiencing days of random packet loss on my BQM. However, I don't see any packet loss if I choose to ping different servers from my PC. Some days my BQM shows just tiny, tiny, blips of packet loss. Other days I get these chunks of 5-10%.

During the period last night when I was seeing it on my BQM, I pinged a bunch of servers and i got zero loss.

I haven't seen any slow down in my downloads. So really, performance appears to be fine except on my BQM.

Is this some kind of issue with the FRITZ!Box 7530 AX? I have ICMP on the highest priority.. Stealth mode is turned off.

Yes, it is a quirk of the Fritzbox. The packet loss the BQM is showing isn't real but due to the way the Fritzbox handles ICMP requests.

Ahh, thanks... That's a shame really. It kind of makes using BQM pointless as I can't tell what's real packet loss. I wanted to keep the router for awhile as it works well for my needs.. But it might be time to blow the dust off my old Linksys WRT32X.

Have you anything pingable via IPv6 attached to the router? When I tried using the BQM to my router I was seeing phantom packet loss, a BQM to my NAS shows no issues.

I don't believe IPv6 is active on my Zen connection, you have to request it. And no, I don't use IPv6 on any device AFAIK. Anyway I've plugged in my old Linksys WRT32X and the packet loss being reported is gone. BQM with WRT32X I did some more digging and it appears the FRITZ!Box has a limit on how many ICMP responses it will give a second, which basically makes it useless for monitoring purposes.. I'm kinda annoyed I didn't look into this earlier as I've been running BQM for months and seeing this random packet loss.

Anyway, it gave me an opportunity to brush up on my OpenWRT and I've had some fun fiddling around with SQM. I will be interested to see how this setup does on a 1Gb package.
