My Zen-supplied 7530AX router updated to v8.2 the other day, and there is now an option to set up a failover connection should the normal Internet connection go down. I have an old but working 4G router so I gave the new facility a try, and it worked perfectly. With the 4G router connected to LAN3, I disconnected the Ethernet cable to the ONT. Three minutes later the Fritz!Box connected via the 4G router and all was well. When I plugged the ONT cable back in the Fritz!Box spotted the connection and switched back after 10 minutes (both delay times are configurable).
Hence I now have a more robust Internet connection, and my old 4G router which was gathering dust is being put to good use. With WiFi turned off, the power consumption of the 4G router is negligible.
