Perhaps it's a case of lesson learned from the "young wide boys" and now let's return to that "stalwart of British companies". It's surprising how many people, particularly older ones, believe that because of the name, BTi must be a good service.
Against all my advice, one of my brothers has made the same mistake of using such reasoning after being stung by TT.

There is a real chance he could be happy if his connection works , but if he has to phone BT he will find another Indian call centre at the end of the line , that's not much , if any better than the TalkTalk one he is just about to leave .

there is also no option of a support forum with BT ( that I'm aware of )

I think that there is a forum but all the same, BTi is one to avoid.

Not my choice. I'd like to help but I respect his independence. In any case an occasional girlfriend of mine has a connection with BT and it works fine. I had to call their support last year because of a problem and it was sorted out well enough even though I wasn't the account holder.

So yeah - I'd have preferred he go with Plusnet but I think BT are going to be better than TT. My experience of BT support and sales is that they are efficient and effective. TT are neither - just a bunch of indifferent clowns and time wasters.

well my experience of BT are they cost more than TalkTalk LLU and the support is no better .

And as already said , i would not let any family member enter into a long and in all honesty a deceitful contract ( more so then TalkTalk contract ) .
18 month rolling , means you have a small window of cancellation at the end of your 18 months .
If you don't cancel in that small window of opportunity , you in another 18 months .

You really do need to step up to the plate and get of the fence with regards to what choice your father is making , as it really is a very bad choice and i personally at odds how he could make a worse choice considering he is out of contract and holding a MAC and has the opportunity to be free from draconian contract terms and have better support and probably a better connection to boot if given the right information by a close family member (that's you if your not sure ).

would you just sit back also if your dad was being frog marched down to his cash point every day by a cowboy builder ? you can still respect his independence but still give him the information he needs to make good choices .

So you will happily let him jump from the frying pan into the fire, i think he would respect you more if you sat him down and explained the pitfalls rather than let him sign up to an 18 month contract with a company that could be worse than the one he has just left, I think you have your priorities a little mixed up.

I think Andrue probably knows his own father better than any of us so let's leave the decisions to him shall we?

If my Father was as independent as his I would still explain the points i made in my last post to him, at least then I would not feel guilty if the move to BT turns out to be a disaster, if he doesn't want to that's his call.

I'm 43. He's 83. Don't presume to advise me on my relationship with my parents. He doesn't need or want me to run his life and I wouldn't disrespect him by trying to.

I also have nearly a decade's experience of broadband and have been a member of this forum since 2002. Don't try and scare me with stories about BTi. I used them for two years when I had Home Highway and they were called BT Open World - I still have a BT line for my telephone.

They are not as bad as you and Mr. 'Fanboi' Hackett make out. The biggest difference is that although they are a PITA they don't try to disguise the fact like TT. With BT you know what you're dealing with.

TT try to make out they're a cuddly, friendly company then they stab you in the back and treat you like something found on the bottom of their shoe. At least BT make it clear from the start that you are a number and a source of money right from the off.
