Is it as sane here as it now looks?

Er... looking into changing ISP.

PlusNet used to have some cheap offers but some terrible real life experiences. It now looks terribly sane in here with problems being resolved in realtime by more representatives than even the Enta forum! I've even seen Metronet_James (award for most confusing name?:-)).

Is it really as pleasant a place to go now? Just facts please - no flame wars.

Hi there

My name isn't quite as confusing as you might think. I worked from Metronet from January 2004 till November 2005, at which point they were bought by PlusNet PLC. I've worked for PlusNet since. I just keep the username as a form of nostalgia I post in here on a daily basis, so it's likely that you'll see my name popping around a fair bit.

We've changed an awful lot from the ISP we were in 2006. We've invested heavily in our infrastructure as well as recruiting heavily into our Customer Support Centre. Since then, we've started winning awards again and our Customer Satisfaction Survey is proving that our customers are massively more satisfied than they were at this time last year.

The quietness in this forum also proves that. I mean, the most popular topic recently has been the product description on the BT Voyager site!

Been here since sept and it "does what it says on the tin"!

As a comparatively modest downloader I like the PAYG process particularly.

Hi,

it is good for gaming. I play BF2142 and COD4 and get low stable pings at any time of the day. It makes a nice change to have an ISP with decent UK based technical / customer service rather than the off shore excuse makers most ISP's seem to use now.

James:
Yeah, I knew you'd been around since those metronet days. You were with them and appearing on AG/TB round the time I picked my last ISP; and came close to picking them. Then metronet got eaten by plus during their godzilla period - eating everyone in sight and then leaving a lot of "solid waste" about. As I recall (as an impartial observer) that was also the period when plus only seemed to have engineers to operate the throttling gear - rather like eclipse are now .

Its positive to hear that, shall we say, the tail wagged the dog and some of the metronet-ness (your good self included) rubbed off on plusnet. And that the BT acquisition has had positive rather than negative effects. I'd hoped for more replies from your customers, although the lack of bad ones says something has changed.

As I said I'm going ISP shopping soon so I'll be checking out a few of the forums. Its still amazing how much ISPs can change year to year (even ignoring technical limits like throughput & caps).

Things are better than they used to be, but it's still worth looking around at ISPs like Newnet, IDNet and Zen who all go the extra mile for their customers.

It does seem improved. Its not so long ago a thread like this would have been rather more unsettling.

We all seem to be having a think before diving in these days, which results in a sensible thread rather than the thread battles of old, long may it continue.
