Ordered it all a few hours ago, paid for 1yr line rental, and have an engineer date of 11/1
I contacted TalkTalk Business beforehand and got the Mac code over the phone then used it to complete the order. I then got a Mac confirmation email from TalkTalk where it says on using my service with terminate immediately.
Does anybody know at what point would PlusNet actually use the Mac code?

They won't if you are moving from TT Full LLU. on using my service with terminate immediately What is that meant to say?

This could be the time that the service is transferred from them. - rather than the time that the OP advises Plusnet of the MAC code or when Plusnet requisition the line change from BT.

An ISP is only notified of the use of a MAC when the associated migration completes. It is not notified when it is submitted by the user to the new ISP, nor when the new ISP passes it to Openreach.

The answer depends on when TT regard the MAC code as being used. No, the point is that MACs are not needed or used when migrating from Full LLU. MACs are only pertinent to BT WLR phone lines.

Well, that's interesting. I received my MAC on Dec 20th, I applied on Dec 21st for Fibre broadband, I was quoted earlier this week an 'engineer date' on Jan 21st (though I've questioned why BTO need to visit at all for an FTTC-FTTC migration ?).
Doesn't the MAC expire on Jan 20th ? In which case what will actually happen ?
I know we've had a Christmas break, that's knocked three or four working days out of the equation, but PN do seem to have been painfully slow with my application.
I received a letter on Dec 31st (dated Dec 24th) asking for my MAC, despite giving it at sign up (the sales bloke read it back to me to confirm)
Also, I received an e mail on Dec 21st, confirming half price Broadband for 6 months, yet my DD advance notice, received yesterday, states 19:99/m, i.e full price. I raised a ticket to question what on earth is going on. I've seen no progress at all, on my application for PN's phone service, also applied for on Dec 21st
All in all, I'm rather luke warm about the whole PN experience so far !
Edit 09:08hrs :-
Just received SMS from Plusnet, saying FTTC service should be complete by end on Jan 23rd (three days after the MAC expires ?)

The MAC expiry date refers to the date by which it must be submitted to Openreach by the new ISP with a migration order. It's nothing to do with the date the migration takes place, following that. So you could order using it quite happily on Day 29. See this page for more detail.
In any case, as has been said more than once in this thread, a move from Full LLU does not technically need a MAC. Moves from full LLU are also a messy procedure, prone to going wrong down to no fault of the gaining ISP. That's one of the major problems with going there in the first place. But of course, the Full LLU companies don't splash that all over their adverts when persuading you to move to them.
An FTTC to FTTC migration does not need an engineer visit, (except perhaps when joining BT Infinity which is a managed install including connection of the BT Home Hub), but I'd be very surprised if any ISP yet has a relevant field in their ordering system to prevent mention of it in initial communications. Even if told by phone during a telephoned order.

Although my current provider is Talk Talk I'm not on their LLU and my speed is of the old ADSL 8mb/1mb BT service. They've been asking me for years if I'd switch to their LLU but I was wary of the possible issues switching back.

Maybe it's their New Years resolution
There was only 1 spot free out of a page of unavailable spots so possibly it was a cancellation

I disagree. We and other ISPs are made aware within a very short period of time of a MAC being used via an active order. 24 hours later we get a comitted date and finally a completed. Therefore from start to finish an ISP is given 3-4 points of reference to work/trigger processes.

Well, I can't really argue with that Martin . Though it's the first I've heard of it in all my time on these forums.
What I am certain of is that not many years ago it was definitely the case that the losing ISP was not always informed that their (ex-)customer's migration had completed. Whether that was because of system failures somewhere in a BT company or the ISP is another matter, but it was very frequent.
It could of course be that some ISPs lied. All my migration completions were known about by the losing ISP before I called them to confirm it.
However, in the context of the TalkTalk statement to the OP that their service would be terminated immediately the MAC was used, some very interesting questions arise. It has to be twaddle, or else illegal. (Quite apart from what I hope we are all right in saying, that to move from MPF to BT Wholesale systems does not require a MAC. But again a muddy pool - because of the interdependence of the PSTN and broadband sides and the possibility on different day moves).
Following on from that though, can you tell me whether I'm right or wrong in thinking you are not told to which ISP the move is to be?

What I am certain of is that not many years ago it was definitely the case that the losing ISP was not always informed that their (ex-)customer's migration had completed. You can't know that for definite. You are not privy to ISPs' machinations. It is more likely that losing ISP ignored, forgot or mislaid the notifications.

I wasn't being definite, I was more judicious; using the phrase "more likely".
It's a matter of probabilities, not certainties

Below is a recent copy of someone who left us early this week (excuse any formatting).
You can see an order was placed by the gaining provider, then cancelled (we presume adjusted as they wanted 1st Jan at first) and then changed to 3rd Jan.
You can see all the way through, from the time it was issued to move away, we were kept right in the loop.
This is an example of migration out to a LLU provider. It's seen as a cease. (our XML picks this up it being a Cease L, so no charge applied).

Yup, exactly the same, just go out as a Migration, rather than a Cease.

Yes, I imagine it helps... yet so many ISPs will not "see" a migration out unless you contact them (in some cases repeatedly). Do I take that they have no excuse for that?

No excuses whatsoever. The data is provided, just depends how the ISPs use it.
We actually give all the XML output to our customers in our control panels, so they can see orders (in/out), modify orders, delays etc

Most (large) ISPs probably don't feed the information from eCo to the systems that first line support see, or indeed any systems that the customer interacts with.

I believe you just need to drop an email to Seb to request ISP status? I think that's what happened for me (though the email was sent by my Team Leader at the time).
Apologies if you were already aware.

The Router arrived today, it's a Technicolor TG582n which going by the feature list would seem to be rather basic.
I guess I'll need to buy a decent router, are there any that are recommended for use with the fibre modem?
Ideally it will handle 2.4 and 5Ghz simultaneously, offer hassle free wireless streaming of upto 3 HD streams ,support 2 PS3's, 2 PC's, 2 x iPads, 2 x printers and our mobiles.
Everything is wireless bar 1 PC and SKY HD via AV500 homeplugs

Well that went rather better than expected.
Call from Openreach guys that their going to fiddle in box, ISP and phone goes off, 15 mins later there's a knock on door, changed the BT faceplate, fitted new modem to wall, plugged in router and I'm up n running again!
