Contract expires in a month so gave them 30 days notice today
they offered;
18 month contract
Line rental with weekend calls £18.99
Fibre Unlimited 80/20 £10.99
Under £30... Cant knock that !
|
|
|
|
That is a very good price as I got mine down from just over £47 to just under £40 on a PlusNet renewal.
My options are slightly different from yours but all said and done your offer would still work out better than my reduced bundle.
FTTC 80/20
Anytime calls
Line Rental
Caller Display (now free I believe but practically counters the £1 Line Rental rise)

Under £30... Cant knock that ! Maybe you need to thank Vodafone!

£39 a month for 350/20 landline and a sim with 32GB a month on it - so just as good for those of us who don't have brain rot tv!

I've just obtained a retention too
£18.99 for phone with free weekends (unchanged)
ADSL was about to increase from £0 to £10.99 as previous offer ended so got this for £2.99 for 18 months.
Might go for fibre now.

I migrated to John Lewis ADSL1 broadband as their deal was better for a market A exchange than PN's customer retention deal ..... that was in October 2017.

last year I managed to get Plusnet to match the John Lewis ADSL Max price in a Market A Area
Then my exchange got upgraded to ADSL2+, and has now been reclassified as a low-cost area. I've kept most of the discount, so I'm paying just £19.99 a month now.

That's good as I couldn't get a price match when contacting the PN COT last year as they said it was no longer available.
I pay £20.00 per month for John Lewis BB (ADSL1) + LR with free weekend and evening calls as per their Ts&Cs on a 12 month contract, no BB issues with it so far and never had any with Plusnet.

Well, as the MAC method has gone now (you just arrange to take service with new provider and they do the leg work) I guess all you can do is call them and say "Im thinking of leaving - can you do me a better deal or should I be looking elsewhere? "
It would probably be a good idea to arm yourself with a few options - maybe from one of the price comparison sites and see if they will match what you can find.

MACs (Migration Authorisation Codes) ceased to exist in 2014. You just contact your chosen new provider and it all goes automatically from there.
The major providers all seem to have Retention departments. Contact them and ask, after pricing up the competition as you suggested.

Funny, he deleted his post between my starting a reply and posting it. With you replying in the interim.
Odd. I would say rude if it was after your post.

The NoT process has also changed (a little while ago) and the losing provider can now contact the leaving customer to offer them other products which may suit their requirements better. This was originally not allowed so you may not need to even call them.

Got the link to the Ofcom page that describes this change

It's covered within https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-interne...
We raised this with Ofcom [in June] after seeing a letter from a customer that was going to move to Talk Talk for G.fast who received a letter with a solicitation included. We received the below directly from them.
GC24 was repealed in September 2014 and replaced by an amended GC22. GC22.15 specifically included the Reactive Save prohibition that was previously GC24.18. A link to the current General Conditions can be found at this page https://www.ofcom.org.uk/advice-for-businesses/knowi... . This page also includes a link to the guidance that I think you were referring too. In the guidance we still refer to the guidance we issued under GC24 and note where that guidance translates to the current GC22.
Last year we carried out a review of our GCs and these new GCs will come into force in October this year. As part of this review, the Reactive Save prohibition has now been removed. Details of the new GCs and our statement accompanying theses GCs (including the reasons for removing the Reactive Save prohibition) can be found here https://www.ofcom.org.uk/consultations-and-statement...
Due to this, I can advise that you would be able to proceed with any Reactive Save activity you wish to conduct.

Hmmmm.
I shall have to read up on all that, but not right now. I've had a busy day for a retired old git.
I can see a large number of non-geeks would like to be offered retention deals without having to ask for one in the first place. A useful compromise between it not being allowed and the previous sales-harassment when requesting a MAC.
Others, me for one, would have preferred things as per the original GPL process, but we could well be in a minority.

I may be wrong, but I can see consultations talking about proposal to remove the reactive save prohibition and what you pasted says
"Last year we carried out a review of our GCs and these new GCs will come into force in October this year"
So is October means October 2018, then the prohibition is still active, though likely I guess that Ofcom will accept providers jumping the gun if its certain to go through.
The Ofcom paperwork on all this is as clear as reading a newspaper through a glass of chocolate milk I find.

I renewed a few months ago with Plusnet 80/20 FTTC and currently pay £28 per month (including line rental) - they price matched the equivalent Vodafone offer at the time - if I had been a Vodafone mobile customer it would have been only £25. For anyone currently looking to renew ask them to match the current Vodafone offers of £25 or £30.

I very much agree there. Based on the text on the first page:
On 19 September 2017, Ofcom published a statement about changes that we have decided to make to the general conditions of entitlement, in order to ensure the general conditions are up to date and reflect Ofcoms current priorities. The revised general conditions will come into force on 1 October 2018, and the current conditions will be revoked on the same date.
I assume some providers have been doing the solicitation since that date, more than likely because these will be changes that are made instead of any doubt of certainty if they will.
Ofcom certainly said that it could be done now and would not be enforcing any action on those that have already.

I don't suppose they would price match Vodafone at a Market A exchange, even though with FTTC the fibres probably go to a different exchange.

PlusNet have announced new packages today - top tier FTTC is now £28.99 pm - don't know if this would apply to Market A exchanges though.

Good information, thanks.
Your link addresses the "low cost area" question, with and there are some caveats for those who move house, such as if doing so will take you out of the providers low cost area (i.e. youll have to pay the higher charge for a non-low cost area). Also, usefully, that article links to a 21 June 2018 ISPreview one that says Ofcom have reclassified many Market A exchanges to Market B. (The definitions of A and B not changing).
(The relevant Ofcom document is in fact a draft, with the final one expected by the end of July 2018. I'll look for that later and report back if/when I find it).

Not sure if I will stay with plusnet after my contract is up, but then again apart from the problem I still have and that is a BTOR problem, plusnet have been ok and I doubt any other provider for the price will do what they did.,
We will see next year.

With the now not so new GPL process, it was never allowed but has since been, or officially, will be from October 2018.
It won't really impact anyone because it does not stop the migration in progress which will happen regardless, it just means the losing provider can solicit the leaving customer with offers to entice them to stay.
Unless that customer opts to stay, the migration would complete on the originally confirmed date given by the new provider.

Thank you very much for that information.
Looks like the exchange I am interested in has been reclassified from A to B. I appear to be able to place a Plusnet FTTC order which would cost much the same as Vodafone bearing in mind the cash discount I got from Vodafone and I could have Plusnet LRS.
At the moment I have a Plusnet email only account. They have just told me that from Ist September I will no longer have to pay them!

Same here. Just moved to fibre plus today, from fibre, included line rental and anytime landline and mobile calls for £37 per month for 18 months. Phoned a month before end of contract and mentioned Vodafone current offer...
