How can ex & non customers help PN?

But I certainly wouldn't object to a forum rule requiring all posters to include their PN history, if any, in their profile ...as long as it also required every poster to list the number of referral payments, if any, that they receive from PlusNet.

I think this is a good idea and would also like to add that a poster should delcare if the work for an isp if they are using a personal account.

I'm not sure if this can be made to work but it would certainly help allow post such as link to be read in context.

I believe ex & non customer can add a lot of value here by asking questions about PN policy.

When a company misleads and mistreats its customers for as many years as PlusNet did then it's not really surprising that those who know some of the history continue to keep a fatherly eye on the forums. If it took PlusNet 3 years to build a bad reputation, they don't earn everyone's trust back overnight.

Yes I agree we need to remember the past but more importantly PN need to be allowed to move forward and not be dragged back at every opportunity to the low point.

I'm sure this thread will be locked quickly but maybe just maybe we can have a civil discussion about it

I do not need to be a current Plusnet customer to know that rate limiting the majority of common protocols, P2P, Usenet, FTP and HTTP every evening, and in some cases the majority of the day, will result in a slower connection compared to ISP's who do not rate limit!

For example P2P is rate limited to 100Kbps on BB Plus from 4pm-Midnight whereas with another ISP no rate limits apply and the full potential of an equivalent line could max out up to 8000Kbps.

That IS slow in comparison!

Pod, I think that you are missing the point. Plus, which is no longer an available product, was deigned for a specific type of user at a specific price point. PlusNet now provide 5 BBYW options. The speeds of various protocols for each option are available here. The lowest speed for P2P is actually 50Kbps for Option 1 between 6pm and 10pm. You will also see that there are no restrictions on most protocols even with this option, which is the lowest priced product. For many people who have no interest in P2P or other bandwidth hungry uses of the Internet that is just fine. However, if having everything running at "the full potential of an equivalent line" there there is Broadband Your Way Pro which, you will see from the table, has no restrictions at any time of day for any protocol within the bandwidth allowance.

Personally I have chosen Option 2 which gives me and my family the balance of speed, bandwidth allowance and price that suits us. I have not been able to find any other package from any supplier that suits us better being located in a small rural town with no LLU or cable options and with no interest in Sky TV.

You have obviously found something that does suit you better, and I am pleased for you. But there really is no need to keep bashing PlusNet who are doing a sterling job for the many happy customers who have chosen to stay with them or in some cases have returned after finding that the grass is not greener on the other side, at least for them.

Are you serious? Most commonly used protocols are rate limited, which is designed purely to SLOW down transfer rates. It may suit some people as you say, but the fact still remains it will be slower than other unmanaged networks at certain times of the day, as it designed to be.

I suspect a lot of subscribers are unaware, or too technically challenged to realise the extent of throttling on the Plusnet network, therefore I shall endeavour to inform them whenever appropriate.

This is a topic you should take up with the staff...they make the rules. In the correct forum that is as any rule would apply to all forums.

Not at all impressed with this topic myself and yes it is going to get locked quickly.

Closed.
