One has to ask oneself one question - would I touch TalkTalk a BT (spit) reseller such as PlusNet with a sterilised barge pole?

Less expensive and as reliable as BT imo. Further more, I can't get LLU or ADSL2+, so many of us take the best option available, and occasionally whinge about the how folk on 10+ Meg don't know they are living.

Cheers for the replies so far. My full stats are:

Noise margin (Down/Up) 15.0 dB / 12.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 31.0 dB / 18.0 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 15.3 dBm / 1.6 dBm
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote) 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote) 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote) 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Down/Up) 241 / 7
CRC Errors (Down/Up) 167 / 9
HEC Errors (Down/Up) 488 / 3
Error Seconds (Local/Remote) 127 / 6

From Kitz's website I see I'll only get a speed increase of about 4meg but that's fine with me - I know people not far from here that STILL can't even get Broadband! Anyone seen a better increase with similar stats?

I'm also tempted to wait for BT to upgrade to WBC in Jan but that will give similar results (certainly no better) won't it?

Yeah that's right, assuming your downstream increases to 34/35 db on ADSL2+ (the increase by a few db is common when going from ADSL1>ADSL2+), then you should sync around the 12-13mb mark...a 50% increase assuming you currently sync at the full 8 meg on ADSL1, so definitely worth switching to ADSL2+. However if you have a choice between BT 21CN and LLU then stay away from BT! If you would rather pour acid in your eyes than go direct with TalkTalk, then go with a talktalk reseller such as Vivaciti - your line remains with BT. Most would agree LLU is way better than a BT based service smile

My full stats are:

So what's happened to the current downstream and upstream connection speeds/sync rates? smile

When you checked the line stats was the router wired to the PC?

The downstream noise margin seems a bit high at 15dB the usual DLM default setting is 6dB but maybe a noise burst required it to be raised to 15dB to stabilise the connection.
Do you get any router disconnections to the exchange during the day or the evening or later on?

The noise margin is because he is hitting the 8128kbps ceiling, and on BT systems that what happens as a result. The margin rises to what it would be to cause an 8128kbs sync if ADSL2/2+ were in use.

Assuming your curent sync is 8128kbps or 7616kbps, which we need to know, see my reply to Apprentice re WBC speeds. On TalkTalk you wouldn't get quite a much as I think they run on 9dB margin instead of the WBC 6db. In fact WBC frequently drops to 3dB on the new DLM, and the IP Profile is no longer an issue as it set to 88.2% (by all accounts) of sync and adjusts almost immediately.

It hurts to say it, but WBC systems are finally becoming LLU-competitive.

I can confirm that WBC will drop to 3db on stable ADSL2+ lines, mines been at or about that level for many weeks now and it gave me quite an increase in line speed as a result (from 6Mb to just over 7Mb). Not bad given I only used to get 4Mb on the same line with ADSL1. Line stats below for those interested.

Text
1

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7062 kbps 440 kbps Line Attenuation 51.0 db 24.6 db
Noise Margin 4.6 db 22.1 db
