Do you have an old one to compare? This happens to me on Zen sometimes when I get put onto Leeds rather than rochdale

Unless something has changed/broken in the BT side of network so they are routing you via an alternative and longer path.

So...all different hops. smile

Also:

You are currently connected to the gateway known as pcl-ag04.

This is located in City Lifeline House.

The latency is high from the very first hop, so would rule out plusnet routing beyond there. It would either be something in the BT network, or the first hop, at plusnet, which is why it's so high.

Someone else will know but I'm sure all their equipment is together (or rather all in London), so it shouldn't really make that much difference what gateway you get on, maybe a few ms if they have a few different sites in London, not tens of ms, therefore my thoughts would be a routing change in the BT network.

And I wouldn't have thought it would be a RAS change either becasuse there is only 1 in Scotland.

Some of this info is probably out of date and someone will come along and correct me!

Posted earlier today:

In reply to a post by jelv:
I've seen similar in the past and some time later it went back to normal. I think it's probably due to BT changing the tunnelled route between your exchange and the Plusnet gateways.

Yup. Definitely a gateway issue.

I assume all the ADSL1 plebs are shoved together on the same (slow) gateway and are fighting for priority or summat.

That's not what I'm saying. It's most definitely NOT a gateway issue. Not only have I seen significantly different pings on the same gateway, I've seen it change without a disconnect. It can only be down to the BT routing between the exchange and the gateways.

Also 20CN "plebs" now use IPSC and I'm pretty sure also come in through the 10 gig connections.

Well it's still a problem, and the one thing that changed in that period was my gateway.

How can you say that? You have absolutely no visibility of the tunnelled route between your exchange and the Plusnet gateways. I am almost positive that if you kept reconnecting until you were back on the same gateway as before you'd find the latency was still elevated.
