There shouldn't be any problems providing an ISP increases the capacity on their network as the demand for bandwidth increases, which will happen if you promote a truly "Unlimited" product.

Time will tell what happens in the months and years to come, things happen and then something has to change

Not at the moment, and Kelly and his team keep a daily watch on loadings and trends so as to increase capacity as needed. A large amount was added in preparation for the new products launch.

oh and do I need to be WBC Enabled to get plusnet? or do plusnet use BT's network anyway?

That's a bit of a tricky question, but I'll try to answer it.

Plusnet use BT Wholesale's network, like all ISPs except the LLU ones and LLU resellers. They can therefore provide broadband of some sort, all flavours barring FTTP at the moment. Don't confuse BT Wholesale's network with BT Retail's! Very different kettles of fish.

Only ADSL2 and ADSL2+ rely on WBC at your exchange. If your exchange is not WBC enabled and you want either of those then LLU is your only option.

FTTC is a bit odd, and confusing at first. It does rely on WBC for BT Wholesale circuits, but Openreach do not provide FTTC to the exchange building if it doesn't house BT Wholesale WBC kit. (So far as I know).

However a large number of "FTTC-enabled" exchanges are not WBC-enabled. Their FTTC is provided from "headend" exchanges which are. So at the cabinet level the PCP (phone cabinet) stays connected to its existing parent, but its FTTC partner has a fibre feed from the headend exchange.

I believe that in some cases, even exchanges that are FTTC and WBC-enabled do not have their own FTTC service, the same arrangement as above being put in place instead. Paving the way for future exchange closures I expect.

Thanks RobertoS I never knew that, I was just saying to my friend that I thought the exchange needed WBC to have FTTC, as his exchange has had FTTC for a while before getting WBC, that explains why.... I wonder if this paves the way for congestion problems if 1 major exchange is feeding several others? rather than them have their own feed?

my exchange (NEBL) has WBC but no plans for FTTC yet - that would mean I could get ADSL2+ with PlusNet... I wouldnt entertain an IP-stream product as a lot of them are poor, but I suppose that depends if the ISP is up to paying BT to expand the bandwidth on their part of the network... as you can get the likes of Sky Connect, Virgin ADSL and even BT on standard ADSL which are well known to be really slow at peak-times -yet you can get the likes of NewNet, Fast, IDnet etc on the same system that are never slow at peak-times...yet charge more and have usage limits, its said the extra charges go towards expanding bandwidth and thats why they are always fast? - I wonder what Plusnet are like on such a service being very cheap (where theres no WBC which is said to improve things aswell as up speeds to 24Mbps)?

It's not blocked on our network. It also has no rate limits if you go for Unlimited so will run as fast as the line and the seeds allow.

Based on this I just ordered Fibre unlimited , was gonna wait for sky, but reading your post I've ordered. I'm willing to go pro too if need be.

Theres a post on here somewhere saying they have disabled pro option, maybe out of luck.

Not disabled. It's still available through Add Ons, but we don't recommend using it.

In short, it shouldn't really be needed on Unlimited as there aren't any rate limits for it to remove.

Its nice to see another isp apart from sky offering a truly unlimited service, seeing as sky has not updated their LLU equipment on my exchange to offer fibre I thought I'd be waiting for month's and also was abit worried about their service from reading their offical forums although when sky bought easynet and i was still on ukonline it was still superb.

I've had unlimited adsl 2 + for 6 years (UKONLINE then BE there ) and really did not fancy moving back to some capped traffic shaped product even if it was 4x faster download and 10x faster upload.

Look forward to getting connected.

Sky are falling well behind...very slow at upgrading exchanges, they are not what they used to be like, I (regretfully) moved from o2/BE where I had solid 18Mb connection, 27ms pings for 3 years to sky where I had nothing but problems with phone, broadband AND billing...if it wasnt for my knowledge of xDSL and persistance I would have never gotten my broadband fixed (put my signal across a Split Pair when moving us from WLR3 to SVBN) took 3 months, 7 engineer visits and 100's of calls and emails to sky - I even had to chase them for compensation once it was fixed ...never heard from again..so I emailed the CEO's dept (again) and told them I wasnt happy and how stressfull it was.. they gave us line rental at £1 a month for 12 months... so circa £160... it was well earned believe me! - then we had £10 over-charge when adding movies AND incorrect bill in a letter...makes you wonder if they do it too everyone and most people arent aware or cant be bothered to complain and sort it so just pay the bill
