The only real gain from signing up before you have the MAC is to secure an expiring offer. It can also be a way of ending the internal debate about which ISP to move to.

Is this a confirmed date? My initial date was sooner, i.e. I selected it from the sign-up page, but when I provided my MAC code the date that was confirmed was none of my original preferences.

My install date is also the 31st May, had confirmation of date by e-mail and by text, but no router yet. Not actually worried, as have purchased a Netgear WNDR4500 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router because I need decent wireless coverage at home and the standard PN offering, while OK, does not have great reviews on the wireless side and is only 10/100 on it's wired ports. I like Netgear anyway and this one gets good reviews. Amazon also had it at a bargain price of £99.99 last weekend so dived in and purchased one.

I've converted my DG834G into an ADSL Modem using the hidden page and it's now feeding my new Netgear router, so just need an OR engineer on Friday to bring along the Fibre Modem and I'll be all sorted. I'm less than 100m from the cabinet so should get near top end speeds (80/20).

I have a static IP on my current ADSL connection, I'm assuming this will carry across to my Fibre Unlimited connection when the upgrade goes through on Friday? Anyone in the same position had a different experience when they moved from ADSL to Fibre?

When we first upgraded to fibre, our static IP couldn't be transferred over to the standard Extra package, because we were on such an old legacy product (ADSL Homesurf, IIRC).

They allocated a new IP at the time of order, and when fibre was actually installed a while later, that new IP transferred over successfully.

So it probably depends on what your old package was.

Thanks for that WWWombat. When I moved from ADSL 'extra' to 'unlimited' my original static IP got lost in the transfer for some reason. A quick ticket and a nudge from one of the PN reps on here got that sorted very quickly. I don't need a specific IP address, just as static one, so if my current IP changes with the move to fibre that won't be a show-stopper.

BT OR engineer has just been, fibre connection up-and-running. Installation was all very simple and straightforward, he was hardly here long enough to drink his cup of tea! I've retained my original Static IP address and I'm very pleased with the first speedtest .
