I meant that http://pbthdm.bt.motive.com/ returns a 404 and the IP addresses in the log don't resolve to http://pbthdm.bt.motive.com/

Of course it returns a 404 cuz it's not a Web server. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist on the Internet.

Or do you subscribe to the view that The Web is The Internet? wink

Close but no cigar
The 404 or Not Found error message is a HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested.

The web site hosting server will typically generate a "404 Not Found" web page when a user attempts to follow a broken or dead link; hence the 404 error is one of the most recognizable errors users can find on the web.

Wrong. It *IS* a web server and its also listening on the default web port TCP/80. It just returns 404 to the request for the default page in the / directory. See this netcat log for proof.

[james@qantas ~]$ nc pbthdm.bt.motive.com 80
GET / HTTP/1.0

HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
Date: Sat, 17 Jan 2015 17:42:12 GMT

Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

Yes. I initiated a remote management session for my Hub 5 while running packet analysis, and can confirm the logs are accurate, it connects via https:// pbthdm.bt.motive.com

I wonder if it checks the certificates or if it could be tricked into talking with another ACS.
